Pharmaceutical contamination threatens both humans and the environment, several technologies have been adapted for removal of pharmaceuticals. The coagulation-flocculation process demonstrates a feasible solution pharmaceutical removal. However, chemical coagulation has its drawbacks, such as excessive toxic sludge production high cost. To overcome these shortcomings, feasibility natural-based coagulants, due to their biodegradability, safety, availability, investigated by researchers. This review presented recent advances using natural coagulants compound from aqueous solutions. main mechanisms water wastewater are charge neutralization polymer bridges. Natural extracted plants more commonly than those animals affordability. competitive in terms performance environmental sustainability. Developing reliable extraction method is required, therefore further investigation essential obtain complete insight regarding effect factors during coagulants. Finally, indirect application an step implementing green treatment technologies.

A large variety of pharmaceutical compounds have recently been detected in wastewater and natural water systems. This review highlighted the significance removing compounds, which are considered indispensable emerging contaminants, from Various advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), including UV-H2O2, Fenton photo-Fenton, ozone-based processes, photocatalysis, physical such as sonolysis, microwave, electron beam irradiation, regarded most viable methods to eliminate different categories discussed. All these AOPs exhibit great promising techniques, catalytic degradation process advantages, disadvantages each technique were deliberated. Heterogeneous photocatalysis employing metal oxides, particularly anatase TiO2 nanoparticles catalysts activated by UV light was reviewed terms electron–hole separation, migration charge carriers catalyst surfaces, redox potential carriers. brief overview also emphasized that TiO2-based nanomaterials photocatalysts, a combination other enhanced photocatalytic efficiency. Finally, challenges applying environmental remediation treatments degrade mass spectroscopic analysis biological activity test by-products contaminants resulting summarized.

The presence of pharmaceuticals in the aquatic environment is increasing due to their growing use for human health. Although most studies are based on short exposures these contaminants, present study has emerged from need organisms over a long-term exposure understand any multi-generational chronic effects and alterations regarding habitat selection. Therefore, this shows: (1) ability Daphnia magna colonize environments contaminated with caffeine, ibuprofen fluoxetine, (2) effect reproduction selection (under two scenarios: without food) after period three generations. It was observed that caffeine shortened time between generations caused an increase number neonates per female. opposite ibuprofen: reach third F3 generation double when compared those exposed caffeine. Fluoxetine did not alter reproduction, nor repellent/attractive daphnids. In tests, cultivated clean water preferred compartment highlighting its attractive effect. Caffeine also daphnids colonization test. Apart this, no chemical showed or repulsive absence food during tests. Our findings show some could cause distribution patterns, significant species. underlining importance studying contamination by exposure.
