Published: March 1, 2025

Purpose This study investigates how the October 7th terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel and subsequent “Iron Swords” war have altered consumers’ food choice priorities. The research aims to explore shifts in decision-making regarding consumption during times of crisis. Design/methodology/approach Conducted through an online survey from November December 2023, involved 403 participants (50.4% female; 50.1% vegan/vegetarian). focused two sets parameters: type 1 (mood improvement, convenience affordability) 2 (health, smell, texture taste). Paired sample t -tests were applied for statistical analysis. Findings results show a significant change priorities following events. Respondents placed greater significance parameters two-month period outbreak compared pre-war period, while decreased importance (type 1: t(402) = −8.025, p <0.001; 2: 4.261, <0.001). Gender differences revealed that women more influenced factors, whereas men affected parameters. Meat eaters showed than vegans/vegetarians across both parameter types. Originality/value contributes understanding crises reshape consumer behavior, specifically choices, various demographic groups. By examining influence event parameters, this provides valuable insights into changing preferences

Background: Vegetarianism is commonly associated with various health benefits. However, the association between this dietary regimen and aspects of mental remains ambiguous. This study compared symptoms depression anxiety, emotional eating (EmE), body mass index (BMI) in Peruvian vegetarian non-vegetarian adults. Methods: A cross-sectional was conducted on 768 adults, whom 284 (37%) were vegetarians 484 (63%) non-vegetarians. The Depression Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2), Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-2 (GAD-2), an EmE questionnaire applied; additionally, BMI calculated. Simple multiple linear regression Poisson models robust variance used to evaluate depression, EmE, patterns. Results: (Adjusted Prevalence Ratio [PR] = 0.24, 95% CI 0.16–0.31; p < 0.001) reported more depressive than trend persisted for adjusted PR 0.17 (95% CI: 0.01–0.29; 0.012). (adjusted −0.38, −0.61–−0.14; lower scores Likewise, had a mean non-vegetarians (B −0.16, −0.21–−0.08; 0.001). Conclusions: Vegetarian diets are increased as well scores. Further longitudinal studies needed elucidate these associations determine causality underlying mechanisms involved.
