Wide application of electrodialysis, which is proven to be highly effective in waste waters treatment and a broad spectrum other technologies, restrained by membrane fouling. The present study dedicated the fluorescent-tagged antiscalants (ASs) for mitigation scaling calcium carbonate phosphate electrodialysis stack within set model experiments.Hydroxyethylidenebis(phosphonic acid), conjugated with naphthalimide (HEDP-F), two fluoresceine-tagged polyacrylates (PAA-F2 PAA-F2S) are tested. It demonstrated that all three ASs efficient CaCO3 retardation: PAA-F2S>PAA-F2>HEDP-F.The similar efficiency found case CaHPO4•2H2O: PAA-F2S>PAA-F2 >>HEDP-F.At same time, PAA-F2S PAA-F2 affect crystal habit both CaHPO4•2H2O, while HEDP-F does not. However, due visualization it there no direct relevance between scale inhibition efficacy an ability growth kinetics form deposit. The major effect detected at nucleation step: increase induction time. However, definite decrease rate stages following registered relative blank run.Meanwhile, most AS molecules stay aqueous phase till end formation only then do they begin get adsorbed deposit.Notably, CaCO3, reveal selective sorption on vaterite, bit less intensive flake-like modification calcite least rhomboherdal surfaces. In way, demonstrate location plate-like modifications but presence pellet-like this mineral. It shown correlation rate. The observed effects interpreted terms interactions natural nanoimpurities acting as crystallization centers step.

Deposits of calcium sulfate scale on the surfaces industrial equipment in distillation facilities, reverse osmosis desalination plants, oil and gas industries lead to significant clogging pipes membranes a serious increase production costs. For mitigation formation, wide spectrum antiscalants is applied. The present work dedicated study deposition from supersaturated aqueous solutions presence polyacrylic antiscalant with fluorescent marker (naphthalimide fragment) PAA-F1, which provides traceability inhibitor better understanding its efficacy. A paradoxical phenomenon being described here. Antiscalant causes change crystal phase bassanite gypsum, significantly reduces amount deposit, but does not reveal molecules either at kink, step, or selected edge sites deposited crystals. Contrary predictions theory, it stays phase, forms own separate Ca-PAA-F1. It demonstrated that block nuclei surfaces, rather foreign particles nanodust particle sizes around 1 nm, naturally occurring any solution. As result, number nucleation reduced, rate formation decreases without apparent antiscalant–scale interaction. On grounds current experiment, substoichiometric effect inhibition obtained an alternative, quite stoichiometric explanation.

A common issue in studies on liquid-phase chemical processes is that the natural solid nanoimpurities present reagent-grade chemicals are ignored. Little known about these impurities’ nature, sizes, concentrations, and behavior, yet they significantly affect efficiency of antiscalants municipal laboratory solutions. Recent research has focused on: (i) estimating nanoimpurity concentrations in-house deionized water semiconductor-grade isopropanol using “light sheet” optical ultramicroscopy, (ii) visualizing antiscalant sorption impurities. Using a fluorescent-tagged aminobis(methylenephosphonic acid) (ADMP-F), we tracked its affinity to particulate matter KCl Our study showed total concentration nanoparticles with size larger than 20 nm 106 units/mL 105 isopropanol. Extrapolation values ≥1 resulted 1011 108 units/mL. The addition or ADMP-F increased foreign nanoparticle populations. selectively adsorbed by only some impurities, while most molecules remain as true solution. To our knowledge, this first instance fluorescently labeled aminoalkylphosphonates being able differentiate traces purity Therefore, role crystallization centers should be seriously reconsidered, especially their important application scale inhibition.
