This study examines the new Booking.com rating system, which has suffered a significant drop in scores awarded to accommodation. We aim determine extent of these declines and identify factors that make them more pronounced some hotels than others. Our findings reveal consistent, much reflected recently published studies minimized effects changes. Contrary predictions made other studies, highest-rated have also drops their scores. Machine learning models identified “facilities” as item plays most relevant role consumers’ global satisfaction contributes predicting magnitude with system. Implications for both hoteliers academics utilizing Booking.com’s score data are identified, particularly comparing from different periods.
