Despite advances in understanding systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), many challenges remain unraveling the precise mechanisms behind disease's development and progression. Recent evidence has questioned role of programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) suppressing autoreactive CD4+ T cells during autoimmune responses. Research investigated potential impacts PD-1 on various T-cell subpopulations, including follicular helper (Tfh) cells, circulating Tfh (cTfh) peripheral (Tph) all which exhibit substantial expression are closely related to several disorders, SLE. This review highlights complex autoimmunity emphasizes imperative for further research elucidate its functions Additionally, we address ligands as possible therapeutic targets
