Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the sixth most common cancer globally. Notably, human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive oropharyngeal (OPSCC) on rise, accounting for 70% of all OPSCC cases. Persistent high-risk HPV infection linked to various cancers, but alone not sufficient cause cancer. Advances in next-generation sequencing have improved our understanding changes microbiome cancerous environments. Yet, there remains a dearth knowledge impact HPV-microbiome crosstalk HPV-positive OPSCC. In this review, we examine what known about compositional shifts We also review potential mechanisms between specific microorganisms. Additional research needed understand these interactions their roles development progression.
