New-quality productivity (NQP) serves as a critical indicator for measuring the level of high-quality economic development. Gaining insights into spatial and temporal patterns along with key drivers NQP is essential promoting global industrial transformation revitalizing old cities. This study utilized analysis, Dagum Gini coefficient, Markov chains, optimal parameter geographical detectors to analyze influencing factors across 271 Chinese prefecture-level cities from 2011 2021. Findings reveal that average index increased 0.045 in 0.072 2021, showing higher levels coastal regions compared inland areas. The overall disparity has diminished, although significant internal imbalances persist, particularly eastern region, where pronounced gap between central areas remains primary source variation. Local development strongly influenced by proximity adjacent areas, characterized path dependence club convergence effects. Additionally, cultural foundation, urbanization, play pivotal roles fostering NQP, their interactions exhibiting notable nonlinear dual-factor enhancement These findings provide valuable theoretical practical advancing China globally.
