Abstract Plastics are embedded in every inch of the fabric society. Although they have played a tremendous role progress and development mankind, done equal, if not more, harm to environment, human health, marine life. Omnipresence plastics can be attributed their low‐cost scalable production that no other material has yet achieved. Once produced, used almost mundane as well niche application. But equation its use disposal is sustainable humungous quantities plastic waste generated each year. In this review article, very problem recycling explored analyzed. The life cycle explained depict vastness peculiar problems associated with it. Various misconceptions discussed on recycling. False presumptions challenged show where efforts solve huge need directed. Lastly, quantitative efficiency economic analysis available methods shown compare feasibility indicate potential direction. Such analyses important for societal transition economy economically recycles most at commercial scale.

Polysaccharides-based sustainable and biodegradable packaging materials suitable for variable conditions are potential candidates replacing petroleum-based polymers. However, the poor hydrophobicity of polysaccharide films seriously limits their practical applications. Inspired by phase separation pseudobilayer through solution-method casting, a novel facile strategy preparing highly hydrophobic starch/gelatin-beeswax (HSGBW) film was developed using an extrusion blowing method industrial production. The increased temperature enhanced interaction between starch gelatin (originally used to stabilize beeswax), leading destabilization beeswax its migration surface, ultimately resulting in formation wax-enriched layer. resultant HSGBW exhibited excellent (water contact angle: ∼106°), outperforming starch-based reported date as well outstanding water resistance, UV-blocking, self-cleaning ability, moisture, oxygen, oil barrier properties. also biosafety, storage stability, rapid dissolution at high temperatures (which offers convenience certain foods that expediently require high-temperature boiling), fully performance, easy recyclability. Owing these multifunctional properties, applied inner food under different scenarios, evidenced with moisture content (cucumber dumpling stuffing), fat (high-fat powdered milk), (chili seasoning). From ecological viewpoints, this work demonstrated manufacturing replace petrochemical-derived plastics many fields, especially packaging, providing new opportunities material designs.
