The prolonged human permanence in confined environments space, such as the case of International Space Station, has inadvertently fostered conditions leading to uncontrolled microbial proliferation on surfaces, known biofilm. Biofilm presence represents a challenge critical spacecraft systems, that can lead contamination issues and systems loss function due biofouling phenomena. This scenario is further complicated by microgravity controversial role biofilm growth formation. Biocontamination be limiting factor long-term mission outer Earth orbit an economic health issue ISS. study addresses pressing need for effective antimicrobial strategies against resilient biofilms where usage biocidal chemical compounds strictly controlled toxicity dangers. Traditional methods complemented advanced coatings techniques. A promising approach based oxygen plasma coating platform. technology potentially extended wide range antibiofilm agents (e.g., peptides, bacteriophages, nanoparticles, quorum sensing disrupting agents, etc.) substrates metal, plastic, ceramic) showing exceptional flexibility. Introduction Helicobacter pylori causes chronic gastric diseases in nearly 50% of people around the world. It is suggested that biofilm formation has a pronounced effect on dynamic resistance spread and recurrence these infections. Methods To mimic scenario therapeutic ineffectiveness, we investigated impact sub-minimal inhibitory concentrations (sub-MICs) antibiotics development parameters biofilms produced by clinical H. strains. Results We observed constant exposure planktonic forms to metronidazole or levofloxacin stimulated speed autoaggregation amount extracellular matrix, resulting increased dimensions developed biofilms. Contrary this, continuous clarithromycin negatively affected number biofilm-related reactions led biofilm-weakening effect. Through assessing membrane fatty acid profiles antibiotic-exposed cells, confirmed induced biofilm-like phenotype, while kept bacteria form. Discussion Our results suggest sub-MICs affect biochemical biophysical properties developing strains may effectiveness antibiotic treatment.

N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs) are small, diffusible chemical signal molecules that serve as social interaction tools for bacteria, enabling them to synchronize their collective actions in a density-dependent manner through quorum sensing (QS). The QS activity from epiphytic bacteria of the red macroalgae Porphyra haitanensis, along with its involvement biofilm formation and regulation, remains unexplored prior scientific inquiries. Therefore, this study explores AHL produced by bacteria. bacterium isolated surface P. haitanensis was identified Pseudoalteromonas galatheae 16s rRNA gene sequencing screened AHLs using two reporter strains, Agrobacterium tumefaciens A136 Chromobacterium violaceum CV026. crystal violet assay used biofilm-forming phenotype. inferences revealed produces four different types molecules, i.e., C4-HSL, C8-HSL, C18-HSL, 3-oxo-C16-HSL, it observed phenotype is regulated molecules. This first providing insights into activity, diverse profile, regulatory mechanisms govern galatheae. These findings offer valuable future investigations exploring role producing epiphytes biofilms life cycle haitanensis.

Biofilms are complex porous materials formed by microorganisms, polysaccharides, proteins, eDNA, inorganic matter, and water. They ubiquitous in various environmental niches known to grow at solid-liquid, solid-air air-liquid interfaces, often causing problems several industrial sanitary fields. Their removal is a challenge many applications numerous studies have been conducted identify promising chemical species as cleaning agents. While these substances target specific components of biofilm structure, the role water content biofilm, how it can influence wettability detergent absorption quite neglected literature. Estimating challenging task due its heterogeneity morphology composition. In this study, we controlled Pseudomonas fluorescens AR 11 biofilms grown on submerged glass slides regulating relative humidity after drying. Interfacial properties were investigated measuring wetting soybean oil. The structure was evaluated using Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy Electron Microscopy. results showed that has significant measurable effect wettability, leading hypothesis preliminary control play crucial process.
