Background: Lutein is the primary macular pigment with an favorable effect on treatment of age-related degeneration (AMD). However, poor water solubility lutein hinders its absorption and delivery. In this study, a penetratin-modified nanoemulsion in-situ gel (GEL) was prepared for AMD.Methods: A (NE) modified penetratin (P-NE) to improve penetration. The evaluated by cell uptake intraocular distribution assays. dry AMD model induced using NaIO3, therapeutic electroretinography, number apoptosis cells reactive oxygen species (ROS) level. Results: showed good ability protect ARPE-19 from damage H2O2 rate P-NE significantly higher than NE. efficacy experiments, structure retina improved after treatment, decreased 31.98% 2.05%, level ROS (p < 0.0001).Conclusions: With aid penetratin, could be delivered effectively. GEL evidently inhibit ROS, demonstrating that has application prospect in AMD.

As many studies showed inverse relationship between carotenoids age-related diseases (ARD) by reducing through interrupting propagation free radicals, carotenoid has been foreseen as potential intervention age-associated pathologies. Therefore, role counteract promote healthy aging worthy further discussion. In this review, we discussed underlying mechanisms involved prevention ARD. Collectively, understanding ARD would provide insights into may affect process, subsequently longevity.

Current agricultural and food production practices are facing extreme stress, posed by climate change an ever-increasing human population. The pressure to feed nearly 8 billion people while maintaining a minimal impact on the environment has prompted movement toward new, more sustainable sources. For thousands of years, both macro (seaweed kelp) micro (unicellular) forms algae have been cultivated as source. Algae evolved be highly efficient at resource utilization proven viable source nutritious biomass that could address many current issues. Age-related macular degeneration is one of the leading causes vision loss in elderly. Genetics, environmental insults, and age-related issues are risk factors for development disease. All these linked to induction oxidative stress. In young subjects retinal pigment epithelial cells mitigate reactive oxygen generation by elimination dysfunctional mitochondria, via mitophagy, increasing antioxidant defences Nrf2 activation. The high amount UV light absorbed retina, together with cigarette smoking, cooperate aging process increase species generated epithelium where stress arises. Moreover, elderly both mitophagic activation impaired thus causing cell death. Terpenes and terpenoids are the largest groups of plant secondary metabolites. However, unlike polyphenols, they rarely associated with geroprotective properties. Here we evaluated conformity biological effects criteria geroprotectors, including primary (lifespan-extending in model organisms, improvement aging biomarkers, low toxicity, minimal adverse effects, quality life) (evolutionarily conserved mechanisms action, reproducibility on different models, prevention age-associated diseases, increasing stress-resistance). The number substances that demonstrate greatest compliance both geroprotectors were found among classes terpenoids. Thus, an underestimated source potential can effectively influence age-related diseases.
