The growth of the elderly population worldwide is posing significant challenges to human society. progressive physical and physiological changes occur with aging, including decreased appetite, incomplete digestion, reduced absorption nutrients. A common feature many people's diets a deficiency in proteins (especially easily digestible ones) micronutrients (e.g., vitamins, zinc, iron, calcium). One solutions this problem incorporation these components into suitably texture-modified foods. There dearth products that meet needs special medical/health conditions such as dysphagia, osteoporosis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, well those who are hospital palliative care. Future research development foods for must address specific dietary different subgroups people underlying health conditions. existence stages means their requirements be considered. This review summarizes current knowledge on nutritional problems outlines innovation pathways developing new considering nutrition, texture, flavor, other sensory aspects.

Muscle loss is a significant health concern, particularly with the increasing trend of population aging, and sarcopenia has emerged as common pathological process muscle in elderly. Currently, there been progress research on sarcopenia, including in-depth analysis mechanisms underlying caused by aging development corresponding diagnostic criteria, forming relatively complete system. However, progresses, concept secondary also proposed. Due to incomplete understanding chronic diseases, are various limitations epidemiological, basic, clinical research. As result, comprehensive system have not yet established, which greatly hinders prevention treatment disease. This review focuses Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM)-related comparing its similarities differences disuse atrophy. The show between three muscle-related issues terms changes, epidemiology manifestations, etiology, preventive therapeutic strategies. Unlike T2DM-related characterized reduction type I fibers, it differs from atrophy well. mechanism involving insulin resistance, inflammatory status, oxidative stress remains unclear. Therefore, future should further explore disease progression, prognosis develop targeted criteria effective strategies better address faced T2DM patients improve their quality life overall health.

Abstract Background Age-related obesity and body composition changes include loss of muscle mass increased fat. This study aimed to investigate sex differences in the impact sarcopenia, defined by Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS), on Korean older adults. Methods In this 2-year longitudinal study, 3014 participants were excluded based AWGS sarcopenia parameters (if any one sarcopenic parameter criteria was satisfied), including low handgrip strength (HGS), appendicular skeletal index (ASMI), short physical performance battery (SPPB). A total 926 non-sarcopenic recruited study. The obese non-obese groups compared according parameters. following variables selected analysis: (BMI), waist circumference (WC), fat percentage. Unadjusted fully adjusted logistic regression analyses performed each variable predict sex. Results Among parameters, reduction ASMI significantly lower group with high WC percentage (PBF) both men women ( P < 0.01). Multivariable analysis revealed that different associated criteria: BMI presented (ASMI, OR = 0.289, 95% CI 0.174-0.480; 0.152, 0.048-0.483). Women had 0.307, 0.189-0.500; 0.262, 0.106-0.649). PBF a incidence (OR 0.214, 0.068-0.278). Conclusions Our identified protective effect women. However, BMI, WC, positively correlated only Obesity may have reducing sarcopenia.
