As
many
prior
case
reports
have
shown,
unregulated
supplements
and
alcohol
are
both
known
to
cause
varying
degrees
of
hepatotoxicity.
We
present
a
47-year-old
male
who
presented
the
hospital
with
headache
abdominal
pain
after
consuming
Reishi
Mushroom
(Ganoderma
lingzhi)
powder
alcohol.
The
patient
was
found
acute
hepatitis
significant
transaminitis,
which
managed
conservatively
N-acetylcysteine
IV
fluids.
Two-week
follow-up
labs
demonstrated
complete
resolution
patient's
symptoms
laboratory
abnormalities.
Despite
growing
popularity
mushroom-based
supplements,
limited
research
has
been
done
on
systemic
effects
that
can
manifest
co-ingestion
other
substances
such
as
Grifola
frondosa
polysaccharide
(GFP)
has
a
positive
effect
in
regulating
type
2
diabetes
mellitus
(T2DM),
but
the
understanding
of
its
regulatory
mechanism
is
still
limited.
Accumulating
evidence
suggests
that
hepatic
inflammation
crucial
onset
and
progression
insulin
resistance
(IR)
T2DM.
However,
question
whether
GFP
can
modulate
T2DM
via
underlying
not
yet
been
reported.
