The application of a liquid crystal (LC) in displays has driven the development novel LC elements. In this Letter, polarization variable line-space (PVLS) gratings based on photoalignment are fabricated, and their variable-spacing properties derived using vector diffraction theory. Both transmissive reflective PVLS fabricated to validate correctness derivation. Experimental results indicate that have wider wavelength response bandwidth than volume grating (PVG). angle selectivity, large incident causes blueshift. Additionally, relationship between focal length indicates its anomalous dispersion as diffractive optical element. These photoalignment-based provide valuable insights for advancement potential improve visual experiences.
