This review explores the relationship between urban energy planning and smart city evolution, addressing three primary questions: How has research on cities evolved in past thirty years? What promises hurdles do initiatives introduce to planning? And why some projects surpass efficiency emission reduction targets while others fall short? Based a bibliometric analysis of 9320 papers published January 1992 May 2023, five dimensions were identified by researchers trying address these (1) use at building scale, (2) design integration, (3) transportation mobility, (4) grid modernization grids, (5) policy regulatory frameworks. A comprehensive 193 discovered that previous prioritized technological advancements first four dimensions. However, there was notable gap adequately inherent challenges. often led endeavors underperforming relative their intended objectives. Overcoming requires better understanding broader issues such as environmental impacts, social justice, resilience, safety security, affordability initiatives.

Abstract The concept of Autonomous Taxis (ATs) has witnessed a remarkable surge in popularity recent years, paving the way toward future smart cities. However, accurately forecasting passenger demand for ATs remains significant challenge. Traditional approaches often rely on centralized data collection and analysis, which can raise privacy concerns incur high communication costs. To address these challenges, We propose collaborative model using Federated Learning (FL) city transportation systems. Our proposed approach enables different regions to collaboratively learn improve their models through FL while preserving data. use several backpropagation neural networks as local collaborating train global without directly sharing shares only updates with that aggregates them, is then sent back them. reduces costs by facilitating learning from each other’s direct sharing. evaluate our real-world dataset over 4500 taxis Bangkok, Thailand. By utilizing MATLAB2022b, compared popular baseline methods existing research taxi Results demonstrate outperforms forecasting, surpassing terms accuracy, preservation, performance metrics such Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Absolute (MAE) R-squared ( $$R^2$$ R 2 ). Furthermore, exhibits improved time process more becomes available.

The transition to a sustainable energy future in Ghana faces critical challenges, particularly integrating renewable sources like solar and wind into the national grid. This study examined Ghana’s progress adoption using International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Model for Supply Strategies Their General Environmental Impacts (MESSAGE) tool. It evaluates feasibility of achieving 10% target set policies by 2030 beyond, highlighting key challenges their impact on country’s efforts. findings revealed significant shortfall, with penetration reaching only 4.77%, far below targeted 10%. actual installed capacity ranges from 150.87 MW 377.18 MW, falling considerably short projected 219.75 645.71 2020 2050, respectively. Expanding sector remains challenging, fossil-based thermal generation continuing dominate, raising concerns about emissions sustainability. Overcoming barriers requires policies, investment storage, smart grids, financial incentives. Additionally, renewables low-carbon baseload options Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) could accelerate transition. Achieving will depend strong governmental commitment, private involvement, technological innovation bridge gap between targets while significantly creating jobs.
