The paper explored whether Education 4.0 is a sufficient innovative, and disruptive educational trend to promote sustainable open education for higher institutions (HEIs). To investigate this the case, reviewed published journal articles that provide real-world, empirical applications of in (HE) sector are intended realize United Nations’ (UN) development goals (SDGs). In particular, focused on aspects SDGs related (or education), which had relevance HE sector. Three findings review study worth mentioning. First, real-world confined certain countries, more concentrated few countries HEIs. Second, ten sets technologies were classified as disruptive, scalable, sustainable, holding prospect accord with UN’s SDGs. Thirdly, most soft-skill affordances cited (especially twenty-first century skills cited), lend themselves well stylized facts they predate are, thus, not exclusive it.

Teaching by subjects and contents where students passively receive knowledge is increasingly obsolete. Universities are opting for teaching strategies supporting skills development to face the labor, social, environmental, economic conditions afflicting us. Employers demand complex skills; universities have identified experiential learning as giving access real situations doing. One of most advanced Challenge-Based Learning (CBL). Through problem situations, faculty collaborate solve an established challenge, with or without external stakeholders. This educational advancement has been global developing graduates international skills, which ensures a world-class standard. Here we report study carried out in from three different continents, analyze implementations CBL programs through cases Mexico, The Netherlands, Ireland, China.
