Specialized products can be needed to help meet the nutrition requirements of vulnerable populations, including infants and young children, those who are ill, older adults. Laws regulations delineate distinct categories for such medical foods or formulated liquid diets, special dietary use (FSDUs), infant formulas, natural health (NHPs). Yet, literature is limited regarding role importance functional sustainable packaging specialized products. This perspective review describes these unique product as well regulatory considerations. Furthermore, reviewed how waste reduction strategies emerging legislative/regulatory policies in United States Canada may not adequately address The paper concludes by offering perspectives innovations policy development sustainability.

Efficient packaging waste management systems are essential considering recent revisions of the European legislation on that sets ambitious targets. rules aim to deal with increasing quantities waste, which cause environmental problems. Consequently, it is necessary identify functional achieve these targets effectively and efficiently. However, given heterogeneity different systems, policymakers, scholars, industry operators struggle have a comparative view. The number non-harmonized laws in force across countries, autonomous recycling targets, constant updates prominent problems make difficult obtain comparable information for research, business, policymaking. To fill this gap, our research question consists assigning responsibilities prevention, collection, recycling, recovery an overview some models at glance respect general governance functioning system. We base multiple-case design since more cases examined using complementary data collection methods, analysis previous literature, reports, legislation, business institutional websites. The increase in plastic recycling is an essential pre-requisite for the transition to a circular economy. Polystyrene (PS) low diffusive polymer and therefore promising candidate back into food contact similar polyethylene terephthalate (PET). However, such of PS cups has been not established date on commercial scale. Even if desired, health consumer must be at risk. As consequence, processes go through conservative assessment by relevant authorities. For PS, however, evaluation criteria are published, which drawback process developers. Within study, post-consumer recyclates were evaluated way existing PET HDPE. packages with direct food, there still some points open cannot answered conclusively today. Upon closer inspection, appears enough information available give first indication as whether packaging materials can considered safe. knowledge gaps determined discussed.

Despite government and consumer attitudes, industry's use of recycled material remains low narrowly scoped. Critical advances in recycling practices technology depend on increased scope application for regranulates, which can be achieved through design from principles. We investigated regranulates laboratory reprocessed the context processing, ability to meet functional requirements, viability closed loop recycling, strategies co-dependent industry reforms. Food loss and waste have been identified as significant contributors to existing environmental challenges. Previous studies extensively quantified losses throughout the value chain. However, there is a lack of knowledge regarding influence packaging design on food residue quantities. This study analyses technical emptiability dairy product packaging, building upon previously described methods proposing new for standardized analysis. The results demonstrate variations in amounts depending type, fat content, viscosity, type design, well consumer handling. findings indicate that residues high-viscosity products, such yoghurt drinks buttermilk, can accumulate level exceeding 4% total filling weight packaging; meanwhile, low-viscosity milk, collectively represent less than 1% weight. Consumer handling instructions significantly reduce residues, shown by instruction shake before opening, which notably decreases products.
