This article analyzes the tensions and emerging lines of research surrounding metaverse from an interdisciplinary perspective social sciences. A bibliometric study (2020-2023) in Scopus identified a predominance focused on technological infrastructures—extended reality, blockchain, artificial intelligence—which contrasts with scant attention paid to ethical, psychosocial, environmental implications. While educational economic applications lead global academic production, topics such as privacy, governance, digital inequalities remain marginal, revealing gap between innovation critique.
