The industrialization of Nigeria for economic development has led to the pollution ecosystem by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) through anthropogenic activities. PAHs are toxic organic compounds, ubiquitous and can pose a health-related environmental risk. sources, concentration, health risk assessments in underground surface water were reviewed this study. Previous studies extracted from research databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, Scopus) appropriately screened. PAH levels found at low high concentrations could populace. values ranged ND–17,762 ND–450,000 µg/L water, respectively. A leading Croatian manufacturer of natural mineral waters and soft drinks utilizes two artesian wells located in the western part Pannonian region to produce over 600 million liters per year. In order assess chemical contamination levels sourced from these wells, this study examined presence metal(loid)s [by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)], phthalate esters (PAEs) gas chromatography-mass (GC-MS)], polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) chromatography-tandem (GC-MS/MS)] at various stages bottled water production (artesian tanks before filling, products after bottling). The results revealed considerable variability concentrations between due differences local lithology. Concentrations individual PAEs (

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and global warming impact aquatic ecosystems, eventually interacting. Monolayer (2D) cultures of cell lines, such as the rainbow trout liver RTL-W1, are employed for unveiling toxicological effects in fish. Nonetheless, three-dimensional (3D) models constitute an alternate paradigm, better emulating vivo responses. Here, ultra-low attachment (ULA) plates were used to generate ten-day-old RTL-W1 spheroids exposure a control, solvent control (0.1% DMSO) model PAH benzo[k]fluoranthene (BkF) at 10 100 nM 18 23 °C (thermal stress). After 4-day exposure, analyzed viability (alamarBlue lactate dehydrogenase), biometry (area, diameter sphericity), histocytology (optical electron microscopy), mRNA levels detoxification-related genes cytochrome P450 (CYP)1A, CYP3A27, aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), glutathione S-transferase (GST), uridine diphosphate–glucuronosyltransferase (UGT), catalase (CAT), multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (MRP2) bile salt export (BSEP). Immunocytochemistry (ICC) was assess CYP1A expression. Neither temperature nor BkF altered spheroids’ or biometry. modified cell’s ultrastructure. The expression augmented with both concentrations, while AhR’s increased higher concentration. showed dose-dependent increase. Temperature concurrently modelled UGT’s expression, which condition °C. Conversely, MRP2, BSEP expressions lowered CAT GST uninfluenced by either stressor. Overall, impacted independently interactively spheroids. These seem be useful novel tools studying liver-related PAHs.

With their unique geographical characteristics, semi-closed narrow bays are important places for human survival but vulnerable to pollution. Because pollutants (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PAHs) migrate and undergo transformation through a dynamic mechanism in of this type, environmental authorities have formulated series effective measures pollution prevention control, these difficult realize. Based on monitoring historical data, multiphase-coupled hydrodynamic model combined with carcinogenic risk-assessment was able solve the challenging problem. Results showed that condition bay very complex. A weaker force had an adverse influence diffusion pollutants, further amplified part by head bay, resulting higher ecological risk. The prediction results indicated total amount PAHs transported from seawater sediments about 4.7 × 1013 ng/year, which might cause serious threats aquaculture or health.
