Groundwater quality and availability in coastal aquifers have become a serious concern recent times due to increased abstraction for domestic, agricultural industrial purposes. (1) Background: Zhuhai city is selected as representative aquifer Southern China comprehensively evaluate the hydrochemical characteristics, spatial distribution controlling mechanisms of groundwater. (2) Methods: A detailed study utilizing statistical analyses, Piper diagram, Gibbs plots, ion ratios was conducted on 114 surface water samples 211 groundwater samples. (3) Results: The findings indicate that pH most from 6.06 6.52, indicating weakly acidic environment. ranges 5.35 9.86, with values being alkaline. acidity may be related atmospheric precipitation, an unsaturated zone, oxidation sulphide minerals tidal action. chemical types are predominantly mixed, followed by Ca-Mg-HCO3 type. Surface Na-Cl-SO4 NO3− concentration relatively high, mean value 17.46 mg/L. NO2− NH4+ concentrations low, 0.46 mg/L 7.58 (4) Conclusions: principal constituents landform. characteristics area mainly controlled weathering dissolution silicate sulfate minerals, evaporation, seawater mixing cation exchange. Nitrate clastic fissure groundwater, granite unconfined pore primarily originates activities slope farmland forest land. confined karst domestic sewage mariculture wastewater. Our elucidate processes characterizing hydrogeology interactions City’s system, which relevant other catchments similar geological characteristics.

Both over-exploitation and exploitation reduction of groundwater can alter the conditions recharge discharge, thereby impacting overall quality groundwater. This study utilizes hydrogeochemical methods statistical analysis to explore spatial temporal evolution characteristics influencing factors chemistry in saline-freshwater funnel area Hengshui City under reduction. The results showed that: With exception deep freshwater western region, which exhibits a trend water deterioration (Cl− accounted for more than 25%), other areas demonstrates an improving (HCO $$_{3}^{-}$$ 25%). origins hydrochemical components two types are influenced by rock weathering. Only shallow saline eastern region is impacted evaporation. And hydraulic play distinct role controlling different areas. It mainly manifested changing water-rock reaction speed diluting ion concentration area.
