Sebum-based metabolomics (a subset of "sebomics") is a developing field that involves the sampling, identification, and quantification metabolites found in human sebum. Sebum lipid-rich oily substance secreted by sebaceous glands onto skin surface for homeostasis, lubrication, thermoregulation, environmental protection. Interest sebomics has grown over last decade due to its potential rapid analysis following non-invasive sampling range clinical applications.To provide an overview various sebum techniques with their associated challenges. To evaluate applications research, drug monitoring, biomonitoring. commentary opportunities using as diagnostic biofluid future.Bibliometric analyses selected keywords regarding Scopus search engine from 1960 2022 was performed on 12th January 2023. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is the fastest growing type of diabetes, affecting between 2 to 38% pregnancies worldwide, varying considerably depending on diagnostic criteria used and sample population studied. Metabolomics, which a platform analyse characterise large number metabolites, increasingly explore pathophysiology cardiometabolic conditions such as GDM. This review aims summarise metabolomics studies in GDM (from inception January 2021) order highlight prospective biomarkers for diagnosis, better understand dysfunctional metabolic pathways underlying condition.
