The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every institution of higher education differently. It is recognized that a return to pre-pandemic institutional life no longer possible. Presidential leadership being required reposition the face this new era. One most vexing results emergence student, faculty and staff mental health wellness as priority issue. Upon examination, campus crisis encompasses aspects life. purpose review threefold: 1) illuminate impact issues 2) outline challenges options, 3) propose set strategic actions for presidential respond crisis.

Presidents and Student Success: Repositioning to a Student-Centered Institution DOI Open Access

Now reopened following the pandemic, each institution is in process of assessing its impact and adjusting institutional model to assure sustainability future. Returning totally ‘status quo ante’ not a viable option as some repositioning required. This study highlights three critical elements that inform this from perspective presidency. First, significant environmental trends their are presented. Upon analysis, improved student success emerges driving force repositioning. Second, an overview successful programs initiatives foster student-centered examined concluding with construct for repositing design. Finally, adjustment presidential leadership strategies facilitate plan suggested.

The COVID-19 pandemic presented a unique shared challenge for all HEIs leaders around the world. Besides balancing institutional tasks and ensuring health safety of campus community, university presidents were challenged with promoting equity showing empathy in their leadership. Framed by Henry Mintzberg’s (1973) theory on managerial roles, this study uses in-depth interviews 14 eight countries, to understand how they enacted different roles leading institutions through global crisis.
