After almost two decades of stagnation, the taxonomy New World Scarabaeinae dung beetles has since 1988 been going through a period great effervescence. In last 35 years, 81 complete revisions and 69 supplements have produced by 86 authors based in 15 countries, addressing taxonomic status 950 species. This is what we christen as Taxonomic Revolution beetles. We review history products this revolution, explore its causes apparent exceptionalism among most other Coleoptera groups, point to many challenges that still face scarabaeine taxonomists. Recent declines of insect populations at high rates have resulted in the need to develop a quick method determine their diversity and process massive data for identification species highly diverse groups. A short sequence DNA from COI is widely used by comparing it against sequences known species. Repositories are available online with tools that facilitate matching interest individual. However, performance these can differ. Here we aim assess accuracy taxonomic categories two repositories, BOLD Systems GenBank. This was done matches between taxonomist suggested platforms. We 1,160 representing eight orders insects Colombia. After comparison, reanalyzed results representative subset subfamily Scarabaeinae (Coleoptera). Abstract The Eastern Arc Mountains (EAMs) in Tanzania and Kenya are renowned for their exceptional species endemism often restricted to isolated mountain blocks. Forest fragmentation during the Pliocene–Pleistocene played a significant role shaping EAMs’ biodiversity by facilitating allopatric speciation between different mountains. However, only few studies focused on diversification within same block. In this article, we investigated taxonomy evolution of dung beetle genus Grebennikovius, endemic Uluguru Mountains. Our goal was unravel factors promoting confined geographic area like Ulugurus. We used an integrative taxonomic approach, combining phenotypic data COI barcodes delimit reconstructed timetree genus. Molecular morphological evidence consistently recovered 4 distinct Grebennikovius species, which 3 new science: G. armiger n. sp., basilewskyi (Balthasar, 1960), lupanganus pafelo sp. represents rare case microallopatry, with all occurring close proximity regions limited forest (∼230 km2). infer that driven interplay climate fluctuations Miocene mid-Pleistocene, topography, stability rainforest ecological conditions. latter factor probably favored loss wings specialization microhabitats, reinforcing population isolation divergence. Dung beetles perform essential ecological functions (e.g. nutrient cycling, secondary seed dispersal and parasite control) are excellent indicators of ecosystem quality. However, in the Amazon region, biodiversity these insects is still poorly known. Here, we investigated dung beetle southwestern Brazilian provide information on distribution natural history. We sampled using pitfall traps baited with human feces five forest fragments municipality Pimenta Bueno – Rondônia, Western Brazil. Parque Bicentenario in the Área Natural Protegida El Espino-Bosque Los Pericos, considered "last green lung of San Salvador", is most important forested area central Salvador. We performed a survey to provide first inventory scarab beetles (Scarabaeidae) park. Collections were conducted monthly for one year (August 2018–July 2019) by using baited pitfall, aerial, and ultraviolet light traps. Four subfamilies, nine tribes, 14 genera, 20 species (8% total richness family Salvador), 1,584 individuals captured. The abundantly collected park scarabaeines Onthophagus batesi Howden Cartwright, belorhinus (Bates), Dichotomius centralis (Harold), Coprophanaeus corythus yucatanus boucardi (Nevinson).
