Abstract Background We described the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in groups Brazilian Indigenous people at different degrees urbanization. Methods The Project Atherosclerosis among populations (Projeto de Aterosclerose em Indígenas; PAI) is a cross-sectional study conducted Northeast Brazil between August 2016–June 2017. It included three populations: Fulni-ô (lowest degree urbanization), Truká (greater and highly urbanized non-Indigenous local cohort (control group). Participants were assessed to register sociodemographic, anthropometric, as well clinical laboratory-derived (CV) parameters. Age-adjusted hypertension was also computed. Nonparametric tests used for group comparisons. Results Here we 999 participants, with predominance females all (68.3% Control group, 65.0% indigenous 60.1% Obesity present 45.6% urban population, 37.7% 27.6% participants. 29.1% ( n = 297) lower less (Fulni-ô – 18.2%; 33.9%; 33.8%; p < 0.001). In elderly male 18.7% Fulni-ô, 45.8% Truká, 54.5% control group. Of 342 participants that self-reported hypertension, 37.5% 68) showed uncontrolled blood pressure (BP). Uncontrolled BP more prevalent when compared (45.4%, 22.9%, 40.7%, respectively; Conclusions found higher communities urbanization, suggesting living towns cities may have negative impact on these aspects health.

Supplementation omega-3 polyunsaturated acids emerged as complementary therapeutic possibility for but benefits are questioned. This paper aims at evaluating effects fish oil supplementation in rats hypercholesterolemia induced by hypercholesterolemic diet (HD). The study design based on an experimental model animals were randomly divided into 3 groups: G1 (standard commercial feed + saline solution); G2 (hypercholesterolemic solution) and G3 oil) over period 16 weeks. control parameters oxidative stress biomarkers evaluated according standardized methodologies. group showed significantly lower values plasma concentrations TG, hepatic myeloperoxidase well higher erythrocyte superoxide dismutase activity (p < 0.05). Regarding histopathological analysis, there was lipid accumulation from G2; meanwhile, hepatocytes reorganization expressive reduction vacuoles TG content observed G3. demonstrated how reduced concentration triglycerides, tissue damage analysis.
