Abstract The skin microbiome can both trigger beneficial immune stimulation and pose a potential infection threat. Previous studies have shown that colonization of mouse with the model human commensal Staphylococcus epidermidis is protective against subsequent excisional wound or pathogen challenge. However, less known about concurrent damage exposure to microbes, despite growing interest in interventional probiotic therapy. Here, we address this open question by applying bacteria at high dose abraded skin. While depletion via antibiotics delayed repair from damage, application commensals-- including xylosus , three distinct isolates S. epidermidis, all other tested also significantly barrier repair. Increased inflammation was observed within four hours persisted through day four, which point displayed chronic-wound-like inflammatory state increased neutrophil infiltration, fibroblast activity, decreased monocyte differentiation. Transcriptomic analysis suggested prolonged upregulation early canonical proliferative pathways inhibited progression These results highlight nuanced role members modulating integrity indicate need for caution their development as probiotics.

A positive Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae PCR result in a clinical specimen may eventually represent the mere detection of non-viable bacteria, complicating diagnostic interpretation. Thus, objective this study was to evaluate M. and its residual cell-free DNA live pigs. Pigs were inoculated with either active or inactivated sampled for up 14 days. not detected by at any timepoint pigs bacterium, suggesting that healthy pigs, rapidly sensed cleared.

Abstract Background The microbiome greatly affects health and wellbeing. Evolutionarily, it is doubtful that a host would rely on chance alone to pass microbial colonization its offspring. However, the literature currently offers only limited evidence regarding two alternative hypotheses: active shaping by genetic factors or transmission of maternal legacy. Results To further dissect influence genetics inheritance, we collected 2-cell stage embryos from representative wildtypes, C57BL6/J BALB/c, transferred mixture both genotype into hybrid recipient mice be inoculated an identical at birth. Conclusions Observing offspring for six generations unequivocally emphasizes impact over legacy in constant environments, akin murine laboratory experiments. Interestingly, solely controlled first generation. current supporting has not extended beyond this initial generation, resolving aforementioned debate. graphical abstract
