As of March 2020, the UK public were instructed to work from home where possible and as a result, nearly half those in employment did so during following month. Pre-pandemic, around 5% workers chose home; it was often seen advantageous, for example due eliminating commuting time increasing flexibility. However, homeworking also had negative connotations, example, blurred boundaries between life sense constant connectivity workplace. Understanding psychological impact working an enforced prolonged manner COVID-19 pandemic is important. Therefore, this review sought establish relationship home, mental health, productivity. In January 2022, literature searches conducted across four electronic databases: Medline, Embase, PsycInfo Web Science. February 2022 grey using Google Advanced Search, NHS Evidence; Gov.uk Publications British Library directory online doctoral theses. Published unpublished which collected data after included participants who experienced at least some their hours, detailed association terms health or productivity included. total 6,906 citations screened 25 papers databases Grey searching resulted two additional papers. 27 studies review. Findings suggest both, varies considerably, suggesting complex relationship, with many factors (e.g., demographics, occupation) having influence on relationship. We found that there no clear consensus are indications start first risk poor productivity, experience health. Suggestions future research suggested.

Abstract Intrusive memories (IMs) after traumatic events can be distressing and disrupt mental health functioning. We evaluated the impact of a brief remotely-delivered digital imagery-competing task intervention on number IMs for intensive care unit (ICU) staff who faced repeated trauma exposure during COVID-19 pandemic using two-arm, parallel-group, single-blind randomised controlled trial, with comparator arm receiving delayed access to active treatment (crossover). Eligible participants worked clinically in UK NHS ICU had at least 3 work-related week before recruitment. Participants were randomly assigned (1:1) immediate (weeks 1–4) or 5–8) access. Abstract Intensive care unit (ICU) staff continue to face recurrent work-related traumatic events throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Intrusive memories (IMs) of such comprise sensory image-based memories. Harnessing research on preventing IMs with a novel behavioural intervention day trauma, here we take critical next steps in developing this approach as treatment for ICU who are already experiencing days, weeks, or months post-trauma. To address urgent need develop mental health interventions, used Bayesian statistical approaches optimise brief imagery-competing task reduce number IMs. We evaluated digitised version remote, scalable delivery. conducted two-arm, parallel-group, randomised, adaptive optimisation trial. Eligible participants worked clinically UK NHS during pandemic, experienced at least one event, and three week prior recruitment. Participants were randomised receive immediate delayed (after 4 weeks) access intervention. Primary outcome was trauma 4, controlling baseline week. This study explored the associations between personality dimensions, burnout, and psychopathology in healthcare professionals intensive care units (ICUs). further aimed to discern differences these relationships when considering variables of critical experience (less than 5 years, 5–10 more 10 years), profession (nurses versus intensivists), urban size city where ICU is located (metropolitan cities smaller cities). cross-sectional investigation’s outcomes are based on data from 503 personnel, including 155 intensivists 348 nurses, 31 departments Greece. Participants underwent a comprehensive assessment involving sociodemographic questionnaire, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90). To analyze interplay among experience, burnout status, psychopathology, moderation analysis was conducted with dimensions (i.e., psychoticism, extraversion, neuroticism) serving as mediator variable. Profession location were considered moderators influencing relationships. Male showed higher psychoticism levels females, aligning prior research. Experienced nurses reported lower personal achievement, hinting at potential motivation challenges for professional growth. Psychoticism predicted high depersonalization low achievement. Neuroticism negatively impacted personnel’s mental well-being, reflected elevated scores status. appears be primary factor three particularly affecting intensivists. Abstract Introduction The experiences of UK Government response-focused employees, who were considered frontline workers during the coronavirus response, are missing from current literature. Meeting demands being on frontline, whilst also adjusting a normal and practiced way working to having work within one’s home, may bring plethora new barriers facilitators associated with providing an effective pandemic response. Method This interview study collected analysed data 30 Civil servants worked COVID-19 response their own homes. Interviews aimed to: (1) explore employee’s home contributing response; and, (2) establish what support guidance employees offered, they would recommend for future public health emergencies requiring homeworking. Results Seven themes extracted data: overall experience home; preparedness effort; life balance; relationships colleagues; space equipment; inclusivity. Findings suggested that pandemic, participants reported feeling strong sense purpose achievement But, was demanding, particularly those had rapidly, unexpectedly, transition office or lab working. More generally, nature homeworking depended range practical (e.g., in home), organisational managers) personal factors caring responsibilities). Many underprepared but provided information relating offers find useful Conclusion results this demonstrate need more tailored flexible multilevel (i.e., peers, managers, organisations) when required home.
