The increasing demand for plastic in our daily lives has led to global pollution. improper disposal of resulted a massive amount atmospheric microplastics (MPs), which further the production nanoplastics (NPs). Because its intimate relationship with environment and human health, microplastic nanoplastic contamination is becoming problem. are microscopic light, they may penetrate deep into lungs. Literature regarding microplastics in the atmosphere has advanced recent years. However, studies have been undertaken isolation with minimal collaboration and exploration of relationships between air, deposition dust. This review collates concentrations (particle count mass-based), shape, size polymetric characteristics for ambient air (m3), (m2/day), dust (microplastics/g) snow (microplastics/L) from 124 peer-reviewed articles to provide a holistic overview analysis our current knowledge. In summary, featured <1 >1000 microplastics/m3 (outdoor) microplastic/m3 1583 ± 1181 (mean) (indoor), consisting polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene, polypropylene. No difference (p > 0.05) was observed indoor outdoor or minimum 0.5). Maximum microplastic sizes were larger indoors < 0.05). Deposition ranged 0.5 1357 microplastics/m2/day 475 19,600 including polystyrene, polypropylene, terephthalate. Concentrations varied 0.05), being more abundant indoors, potentially closer sources/sinks. maximum reported within Road 2 477 microplastics/g (mean), polyvinyl chloride, Mean microplastic/g (remote desert) 18 225 microplastics/g, comprised polyamide, Snow 0.1 30,000 microplastics/L, containing 10 67,000 The smaller Although comparability is hindered by differing sampling methods, analytical techniques, polymers investigated, spectral libraries inconsistent terminology, this provides synopsis knowledge date atmospheric microplastics.

Microplastics (MP) are plastic particles with dimension up to 5 mm. Due their persistence, global spread across different ecosystems and potential human health effects, they have gained increasing attention during the last decade. However, extent of exposure MP through pathways intake not been elucidated. The objective this review is provide an overview on inhalation, ingestion, dermal contact considering data from open bibliography in air, dust, food, water drinks.A bibliographic search Scopus PubMed was conducted using keywords outdoor indoor food including beverages (n = 521). Articles were sorted by title abstract 213), only studies reporting identification quantification techniques further considered 168). A total 115 articles that include quality assurance control (QA/QC) procedures finally discussed present review. Based concentration available literature, we estimated inhaled dose (ID), dust (DI), daily (EDI) via beverages. Finally, (TDI) both inhalation ingestion routes provided for adults, infants newborns. The concentrations according bibliography. Human air food/drinks consumption revealed drinking waters main sources MP.This study reveals humans constantly exposed MP, environment ingest decisively contribute intake. Plastics are commonly used for packaging in the food industry. The most popular thermoplastic materials that have found such applications polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), and polystyrene (PS). Unfortunately, plastic is disposable. As a consequence, significant amounts of waste generated, entering environment, undergoing degradation processes. They can occur under influence mechanical forces, temperature, light, chemical, biological factors. These factors present synergistic or antagonistic effects. result their action, microplastics formed, which undergo further fragmentation decomposition into small-molecule compounds. During process, various additives at plastics' processing stage also be released. Both negatively affect human animal health. Studies on airborne microplastics (AMPs) have reported higher abundance of AMPs in indoor air compared to outdoors. Most people spend more time indoors outdoors, and it is therefore important identify quantify understand human exposure AMPs. This can vary among different individuals as they their locations activity levels, thus experience breathing rates. In this study, ranging from 20 5000 μm were sampled across sites Southeast Queensland using an active sampling technique. The highest MP concentration was observed at the childcare site (2.25 ± 0.38 particles/m3), followed by office (1.20 0.14 particles/m3) a school (1.03 0.40 particles/m3). lowest inside vehicle (0.20 comparable outdoor concentrations. only shapes fibers (98 %) fragments. ranged 71 4950 length.
