Abstract Food packaging is used worldwide and a common technique for protecting food safety quality while increasing shelf life. Environmental issues caused by using polymers in derived from petroleum are becoming more significant well‐known. Interest ecofriendly materials made of renewable resources (biopolymers) has steadily increased, particularly temporary throw‐away applications. However, biopolymers frequently have poor processability, mechanical, barrier characteristics, restricting their industrial application scalable manufacturing. Researchers created bionanocomposites with improved qualities like antibacterial function, mechanical toughness, optical clarity, gas water properties to overcome these restrictions. Biochar usage for removing heavy metals from aqueous environments has emerged as a promising research area with significant environmental and economic benefits. The development of innovative, biodegradable food packaging materials to combat plastic pollution has garnered significant attention from scholars and government agencies worldwide. Natural polysaccharides proteins exhibit excellent modifiability, biodegradability, high ductility, compatibility with products, making them ideal candidates for constructing hydrogels. Hydrogel films based on these biopolymers have opened new research horizons in applications. This review examines natural commonly used hydrogel film preparation explores strategies improve their performance, including the use binary mixtures exogenous additives. To optimize functionality, cross-linking mechanisms between film-forming methods are summarized. Additionally, recent applications discussed, showcasing ability extend or monitor freshness. Despite existing challenges, current advancements present a promising sustainable alternative conventional paving way innovative solutions.

Increased mass manufacturing and the pervasive use of plastics in many facets daily life have had detrimental effects on environment. As a result, these worries heighten possibility climate change due to carbon dioxide emissions from burning conventional, non-biodegradable polymers. Accordingly, biodegradable gelatin chitosan polymers are being created as sustainable substitute for polymeric materials various applications. Chitosan is only naturally occurring cationic alkaline polysaccharide, well-known edible polymer derived chitin. The biological activities chitosan, such its antioxidant, anticancer, antimicrobial qualities, recently piqued interest researchers. Similarly, hydrolytic breakdown collagen protein offers medicinal advantages owing unique amino acid composition. In this review, we present an overview recent studies focusing applying fields. These include using food packaging, antioxidants properties, properties encapsulating biologically active substances, tissue engineering, microencapsulation technology, water treatment, drug delivery. Abstract Food waste and byproducts (FWBP) are a global issue impacting economies, resources, health. Recycling utilizing these wastes, due to processing economic constraints, face various challenges. However, valuable components in food inspire efficient solutions like active intelligent packaging. Though research on this is booming, its material selectivity, effectiveness, commercial viability require further analysis. This paper categorizes FWBP explores their potential for producing packaging from both animal plant perspectives. In addition, the preparation/fabrication methods of films/coatings have also been summarized comprehensively, focusing advantages disadvantages adaptability.
