Abstract In this study, Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. indicus DC-3 was isolated from Indian traditional indigenous fermented milk Dahi and identified using whole genome sequencing. The safety of the strain evaluated both genetic phenotypic analyses, such as presence virulence factors, mobile insertion elements, plasmids, antibiotic resistance, etc. Besides this, comprehensively investigated for in vitro probiotic traits, biofilm formation, antibacterials, exopolysaccharide (EPS) production. results, showed a single circular chromosome (3,145,837 bp) with GC content 56.73%, higher number accessory unique genes, an open pan-genome, absence virulence, transmissible resistance genes. capable surviving in gastric juice (83% viability at 3 h) intestinal (71% 6 42.5% autoaggregation, adhesion to mucin, 8.7% xylene, 8.3% Caco-2 cells. γ-hemolytic nature, usual susceptibility profile, negative results mucin gelatin degradation ensure strain. produced 10.5 g/L D-lactic acid hydrogen peroxide, inhibiting co-aggregating Escherichia coli MTCC 1687, Proteus mirabilis 425, Candida albicans ATCC 14053. addition, 90 mg/L EPS (48 formation. conclusion, study demonstrates that L. is different than previously reported strains safe potential candidate.
