Given current living conditions migrants, WHO guidelines how to prevent (such as handwashing, physical distancing working from home) challenging nearly impossible settlements. We use case India highlight challenges migrants slum dwellers during response, provide human rights-based recommendations for immediate action safeguard these vulnerable populations.

Migration can strengthen adaptation to climate change. The potential of migration-as-adaptation builds on a world intensifying global mobility and connectedness the increasing possibility geographically spreading risks. But what if is impeded connectivity disrupted? And happens distant places face risks simultaneously due systemic character or multiplicity crises? This paper points fundamental gaps in research migration-as-adaptation, which largely neglects questions limits. It argues that an understanding limits needs address (1) migration as inherent feature social systems under stress, (2) unequal contested nature goals, (3) immobility, disconnectedness simultaneous exposure core mechanisms limit adaptive migration. proposes novel translocal-mobilities perspective multi-scalar, multi-local, relational intersectional dynamics migration-as-adaptation. formulates for adaptation. Gender influences people's behaviour in various ways. This study investigates gendered (im)mobility during cyclone strikes Bangladesh. During such people have described being unable to move away from environmentally high-risk locations and situations. The Q-based Discourse Analysis used by this shows how why gender-roles (im)mobilised three coastal the cyclones. People (and especially women) explained that failing evacuate shelters when a disaster was not uncommon. Gender, or feminine masculine social roles, played significant role these evacuation decisions while facilitating constraining their mobility. subjectivities presented different accepted behaviours spaces for women men. In way, immobility (social, psychological, geographical) strongly gendered. Masculine roles were expected be brave protective, female 'mobility' could risky. Women's mobility therefore ended up constrained home. other words, strikes, everyone did same ability move. These empirical insights are important inform climate policy way it better supports vulnerable populations worldwide as they confront global environmental changes today future.

This article uses storytelling methodology to investigate the connections between urban climate-induced loss of wellbeing and (im)mobility in Bhola Slum, an informal settlement Dhaka, Bangladesh. The houses Internally Displaced People from southern coast who built named slum after their home - Island. sessions revealed that belonging, identity, quality life social value produced people a desire return. Nostalgic storylines also shaped narratives children born often referred island as home. Some women felt move had resulted more liberty, but claimed it increased risk punishment stigmatisation. It is widely suggested that migration a key mechanism linking climate change to violent conflict, particularly through increasing the risks of conflict in urban destinations. Yet also creates new forms insecurity distress migration, immobility and vulnerability are prevalent destination locations. Here we examine extent nature human security destinations test whether affected by length residence environmental hazards. Abstract Bangladesh’s unique climate vulnerability is well-investigated but the mental health impacts of change remain relatively unexplored. Three databases were searched for English primary qualitative studies published between 2000 and 2020. Out 1202 publications, 40 met inclusion criteria. This systematic review applies a systems approach to further understand ‘climate-wellbeing’ network. The literature indicates diverse factors linking environmental stress ill-health including four key themes: (1) post-hazard risks, (2) human (im)mobility, (3) social tension conflict, (4) livelihood loss economic hardship. analysis also revealed that people’s wellbeing strongly mediated by socio-economic status gender. article illustrates how multiple pathways may amplify stress, anxiety, violence, psychological damage. Greater recognition connections, incorporation in current action policy frameworks, will be an effective way achieve more sustainable future.

The role of migration as one potential adaptation to climate change is increasingly recognized, but little known about whether constitutes successful adaptation, under what conditions, and for whom. Based on a review emerging science, we propose that if it increases well-being, reduces inequality, promotes sustainability. Well-being, equity, sustainability represent entry points identifying trade-offs within across different social temporal scales could potentially undermine the success adaptation. We show assessment at various requires incorporation consequences such loss population in source areas, risk destination, material non-material flows economic synergies between destination.
