Objectives: To examine military service-related variables and late-life depressive symptomatology among older Japanese-American males.Method: This study is a secondary data analysis of longitudinal, community-based study. A sample 2669 participants (771 World War II veterans, 1898 civilians) was drawn from the Honolulu-Asia Aging Study. Depressive symptoms were assessed twice across 9-year period with Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression scale. Covariates included sociodemographic, physical health, health behavior, psychosocial variables. Combat exposure examined subset 426 veterans. Cross-sectional longitudinal designs analyzed linear regression. Results: Veterans civilians did not differ in depression scores. Baseline scores significantly predicted follow-up For full sample, lower ratings quality life satisfaction, daily activity control general associated higher both cross-sectionally longitudinally. Among light combat marginally longitudinally, previous poorer significant predictors scores. Conclusion: Results suggest that service does affect symptomatology. However, may play marginal role increased symptoms. Reasons results include possibility other factors are more relevant to depression, naturally decreasing over time, or type measurement. expand literature by examination an ethnoracial group studied often within military-related context. Converging evidence from large community-based samples, Internet studies, and Veterans Health Administration data suggest that transgender adults have high rates of U.S. military service. However, little is known about the role prior service in their mental health later life, particularly relation to identity stigma. In this article, we examine relationships between service, stigma, among older adults. We used a subsample (n = 183) 2014 survey Aging with Pride: National Health, Aging, Sexuality/Gender Study (NHAS). We employed weighted multivariate linear models evaluate psychological health-related quality life (HRQOL), depressive symptomatology (Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale [CES-D] scores), controlling background characteristics.Identity stigma was significantly related higher lower HRQOL. Having history predicted The HRQOL, were largely explained by symptomatology. Prior attenuated relationship symptomatology.By identifying adults, study provides insights into how may contribute resilience positive outcomes. Directions future research are discussed.
