The role of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) in chronic pain (CP) and its chronicity is considered secondary reactive to nociceptive processes somatic (SomNS). However, research clinical data strongly suggest opposite. ANS an ancient, complex ample part system. It serves controls visceral organs tissues. takes all aspects types influences mechanisms at both peripheral central levels. In this chapter we bring together evidence from biomedical disciplines practice support alternative theory which contradicts traditional views on subject. We also raise questions require further consolidate facts, advance our knowledge improve treatment strategies for CP. importance topic difficult overestimate because significant impact CP society lack understanding, efficient therapy or cure.

Heart rate variability (HRV) is a measurement of the fluctuation time between each heartbeat and reflects function autonomic nervous system. HRV an important indicator for both physical mental status broad-scope diseases. In this review, we discuss how wearable devices can be used to monitor HRV, compare monitoring among different devices. addition, have reviewed recent progress in tracking with its value health disease diagnosis. Although many challenges remain, believe promising tool that improve personal health.

Background College students face stressors like academic workload, competition, time management and financial concerns, which affect their psychological, physiological cognitive functions. Meditation techniques can help mitigate these challenges. Objective The study aimed to investigate the influence of Mind Sound Resonance Technique (MSRT), a meditation method, on functions psychophysiological variables among college students. Methods Fifty experienced yoga practitioners (aged 19–30 years, with 30 them being female) participated in randomised controlled study. subjects were split into two groups at random: group ( n = 25) supine rest (SR) 25). Participants underwent one month MSRT training, whereas those SR rested for same amount time. Self-reported psychological assessments Stroop-colour word test collected baseline after intervention. On both days (day 1 day 30), continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) was also recorded heart rate variability (HRV) (pre-task), during task post-task. Results exhibited significant changes HRV baseline, Stroop post-task conditions, along changes. found differences tasks [accuracy P < .05), reaction .05)] .05) between groups. No change observed group. Conclusion appears have potential enhance In this regard, may be implemented alleviate effects stressful environments improve overall well-being

Abstract Although more people are engaging in meditation practices that require specialized training, few studies address the issues associated with nervous activity pattern changes brought about by such training. For beginners, it remains unclear how much practice is needed before objective physiological can be detected, whether or not they similar across novices and what optimal strategies to track these changes. To clarify questions we recruited individuals no prior experience. The experimental group underwent an eight-week Taoist course administered a professional, while control listened audiobooks. Both groups participated audio-guided, 34-min long sessions after 8-week intervention. Their EEG, photoplethysmogram, respiration, skin conductance were recorded during mediation resting state periods. Compared group, exhibited band-specific topically organized of brain heart rate variability sympathetic system activation. Importantly, significant found process post training either groups. absence notable CNS ANS indicators sessions, for both groups, casts doubt on effectiveness wearable biofeedback devices practice. This finding redirects focus importance monitoring evaluate progress beginner meditators. Also, 16 h enough forming individual objectively different manifested sessions. Slow and deep breathing (SDB) is a relaxation technique that can increase vagal activity. Respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) serves as an index of function usually quantified by the high-frequency power heart rate variability (HRV). However, low during SDB results in deviations when estimating RSA HRV. Besides, impact inspiration-expiration (I: E) ratio guidelines ways (fixed or intelligent guidance) on not yet clear. In our study, 30 healthy people (mean age = 26.5 years, 17 females) participated three modes, including 6 breaths per minute (bpm) with I:E 1:1/ 1:2, guidance mode (I:E 1:2 guiding to gradually lower bpm). Parameters derived from HRV, multimodal coupling analysis (MMCA), Poincaré plot, detrended fluctuation were introduced examine effects exercises. multiple machine learning methods applied classify patterns (spontaneous vs. SDB) after feature selection max-relevance min-redundancy. All vagal-activity markers, especially MMCA-derived RSA, statistically increased SDB. Among all at bpm 1:1 activated most statistically, while had more indicators still significantly training, SDRR etc. About classification patterns, Naive Bayes classifier has highest accuracy (92.2%) input features LFn, CPercent, pNN50, $\alpha 2$ , SDRatio, 1$ LF. Our study proposed system be medical devices for automatic identification real-time feedback training effect. We demonstrated performed best phase, long-lasting
