Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) recently caused a global pandemic, resulting in more than 702 million people being infected and over 6.9 deaths. Patients with disease (COVID-19) may suffer from diarrhea, sleep disorders, depression, even cognitive impairment, which is associated long COVID during recovery. However, there remains no consensus on effective treatment methods. Studies have found that patients COVID-19 alterations microbiota their metabolites, particularly the gut, be involved regulation of immune responses. Abstract The gut microbiota undergoes substantial development from birth, and its in the initial years of life has a potentially lifelong effect on health individual. However, various factors can disrupt microbiota, leading to condition known as dysbiosis, particularly preterm infants. Current studies involving adults have suggested that not only influences but also multidimensional effects remote organs; these pathways are often referred gut–organ axis. Imbalance may lead multiple diseases. Recent revealed dysbiosis infants cause several acute morbidities—such necrotizing enterocolitis, late‐onset sepsis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, retinopathy prematurity—and it influence long‐term outcomes including neurodevelopment somatic growth. This review mainly presents existing evidence regarding relationships between morbidities explores role axis morbidities. paper thus offers insights into future perspectives interventions for promoting

The gut microbiota, recognised for its vital functions in host health, operates as an endocrine organ, exerting systemic effects beyond the gastrointestinal tract. This “virtual organ” produces hormones that influence distal organs, including brain. With diverse microbial composition, microbiota surpasses biochemical complexity of traditional generating neurotransmitters like GABA, dopamine, and serotonin. Despite challenges culturing bacteria, advances research methodologies have elucidated their role behaviour, metabolism, appetite, insulin resistance. As endocrinology continues to evolve, further exploration intricate connections between microbiome are anticipated, highlighting hormones’ pivotal dynamic host–microbiota relationship.

Dementia, osteoporosis, and fragility fractures are chronic diseases, often co-existing in older adults. These conditions pose severe morbidity, long-term disability, mortality, with relevant socioeconomic implications. While the research arena, discussion remains on whether dementia is cause or consequence of fractures, healthcare professionals need a better understanding interplay between such from epidemiological physiological standpoints. With this review, we summarized available literature surrounding relationship cognitive impairment, dementia, both low bone mineral density (BMD) fractures. Given strength bi-directional associations their impact quality life, shed light biological connections brain systems, presenting main mediators, including gut microbioma, pathological pathways leading to dysregulation metabolism. Ultimately, synthesized evidence about pharmacological treatments for prevention functions individuals' outcomes when coexists. Vice versa, effects symptomatic risk falls explored. Combining alongside clinical practice, discuss challenges opportunities related management adults affected by impairment at high fracture prevention, which leads not only an improvement patient health-related survival but also reduction cost socio-economic burden.

The pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a degenerative retinopathy, remains unclear. Administration anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agents, antioxidants, fundus lasers, photodynamic therapy, and transpupillary warming has proven effective in alleviating symptoms; however, these interventions cannot prevent or reverse AMD. Increasing evidence suggests that AMD risk is linked to changes the composition, abundance, diversity gut microbiota (GM). Activation multiple signaling pathways by GM metabolites, including lipopolysaccharides, oxysterols, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), bile (BAs), influences retinal physiology. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), known for its multi-component multi-target advantages, can help treat altering composition regulating levels certain substances, such as reducing increasing SCFA BA contents. This review explores correlation between two provide new perspectives on treating with TCM.

Recent evidence supports the hypothesis of an association between gut microbiota and pathogenesis retinal eye diseases, suggesting existence a gut-eye axis. However, no data are available on possible effect optic nerve fiber maturation myelin development. We investigated impact nerves collected from neonatal young adult germ-free (GF), gnotobiotic (stably colonized with 12 bacteria strains, OMM12) control (colonized complex microbiota, CGM) mice, by performing stereological morphoquantitative analyses transmission electron microscopy gene expression analysis quantitative real-time PCR. Young GF OMM12 axons smaller hypermyelinated compared to CGM ones, while such differences were detected in nerves. The transcription factors Olig1, Olig2, Sox10 (oligodendrocyte myelination positive regulators) downregulated mice respective neonates. Such developmental downregulation was not observed nerves, that absence prolongs stimulation myelination, possibly through mechanisms yet be identified. Altogether, these underscore pivotal role driving contributing our knowledge about both axis gut-brain axis, opening new horizons for further investigations will explore also pathologies, injuries regeneration associated nerve.
