A recent increase in blended course options has changed the landscape of higher education, necessitating revisions prior categorization online and in-person models. Building on Mixed Instructional eXperience (MIX) taxonomy using current literature models, we developed three key parameters for defining modality. Resulting included: minimum technology-mediated delivery, with subcategories synchronous asynchronous delivery; geographical flexibility, a percentage face-to-face sessions that allow attendance; completion option, binary measure indicating whether full participation is allowed. Two coders applied these to 33 syllabi resulting intraclass correlations 0.78 0.83 delivery (asynchronous synchronous, respectively); 0.79 Cohen's Kappa 1 options. Results indicate our can be consistently, adequately describe modality distinguish various courses.
