Abstract In angiosperm, successful pollen adhesion and hydration on the stigma are essential for germination tube elongation. Self-pollinated grass plants, such as rice, exhibit viscous ‘pollen exudation’ prior to adhesion; however, its cellular dynamics, including their chemical composition, remain unknown. Here, we revisit exudation in rice find that grains showed ‘Roly-poly toy’-like rocking motion exudates lead adhesion. Single-cell metabolomics revealed were composed of high content sugar together with fatty acids redox-related metabolites, different from mature cells. And hence, these solutes might participate osmotic molecular signaling stigmatic apoplast, increasing fluid viscosity. Taken together, it is concluded unique behaviour observed play a crucial role optimal self-positioning germination, resulting rapid self-pollination.

We introduce a new ionization technique for compact, portable mass spectrometers. It consists of syringe with sample liquid capped by self-ionizing spray nozzle containing microfabricated chip. Interaction the wall results in electrical charging without need electronics. Elaborate cleaning procedures are redundant when disposable syringes and mass-fabricated nozzles used. This self-named electroless (ELI) shows comparable performance to conventional techniques. In contrast commonly used electrospray ionization, ELI exhibits excellent efficiency low-conductive solutions such as water or acetonitrile. Due its compact size absence high-voltage electronics, it can also be readily integrated other sources. Besides reviewing main properties ELI, we showcase technique's potential two on-site, ambient spectroscopy applications: perfume fingerprinting fast screening fungicides on citrus fruits.

In this work, we introduce new approach named sample (SIRTA) using GC-MS with Cold EI. Maize production is pivotal in ensuring food security, particularly developing countries. However, the crop encounters multiple challenges stemming from climatic changes that adversely affect its yield, including biotic and abiotic stresses during storage. A promising strategy for enhancing maize resilience to these involves modulating hydroxycinnamic acid amides (HCAAs) content. HCAAs are secondary metabolites present plants essential developmental processes, substantially contributing defense mechanisms against environmental stressors, pests, pathogens, exhibiting beneficial effects on human health. This mini-review aims provide a comprehensive overview of maize, their biosynthesis, functions, distribution, health potential applications.
