Arctium lappa is a weed used in traditional medicine the treatment of skin inflammation and digestive tract diseases. tomentosum folk interchangeably with and, according to European Medicines Agency (EMA) monography, provides an equal source Arctii radix (Bardanae radix), despite small amount research confirming its activity chemical composition. The aim study was comparison anti-lipoxygenase antioxidant activity, scavenging 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), superoxide anion (O2•−), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), 70 % (v/v) ethanolic extracts from aerial parts roots tomentosum. In tested extracts, total polyphenols content composition, analyzed HPLC–DAD–MSn method, were also compared. characterized by strong properties, but their ability inhibit lipoxygenase rather weak. A correlation between polyphenolic compounds observed. A. plant materials scavenged reactive oxygen species more strongly than materials. Moreover, statistically significantly higher compounds.

The present review summarizes the studies carried out on this topic in last five years. According to new definitions, among all compounds included group of prebiotics, polyphenols are probably most important secondary metabolites produced by plant kingdom. Many these types have low bioavailability, therefore reaching colon unaltered form. Once colon, interact with intestinal microbes bidirectionally modulating them and, consequently, releasing metabolites. Despite much research various metabolites, little is known about chemistry metabolic routes used different bacteria species. In context, aims investigate prebiotic effect preclinical and clinical studies, highlighting that consumption leads an increase beneficial bacteria, as well production valuable conclusion, there evidence supporting polyphenols, but further needed humans.

Hydroxycinnamic acids (HCAs) are important natural phenolic compounds present in high concentrations fruits, vegetables, cereals, coffee, tea and wine. Many health beneficial effects have been acknowledged food products rich HCAs; however, processing, dietary intake, bioaccessibility pharmacokinetics a impact on HCAs to reach the target tissue order exert their biological activities. In particular, metabolism is of importance since HCAs’ metabolites could either lose activity or be even more potent compared parent compounds. this review, sources pharmacokinetic properties esters presented discussed. Background Systemic immune inflammation is a key mediator in the progression of coronary artery disease (CAD), concerning various metabolic and lipid changes. In this study, relationship between inflammatory index profile patients with CAD was investigated to provide deep insights into disturbances related inflammation. Methods Widely targeted plasma metabolomic lipidomic profiling performed 1,234 CAD. Laboratory circulating markers were mainly used define general systemic low-grade states. Multivariable-adjusted linear regression adopted assess associations 860 metabolites 7 markers. The aim of the present paper was to identify major polyphenolic compounds and investigate antioxidant, antimutagenic, antimicrobial activities industrially-derived cereal byproducts—wheat bran (WB) oat (OB)—before (fresh) after thermal processing (TP) (10 min, 80 °C), coupled with ultrasound-asssited extraction. results showed that process improved total phenolic content WB by +22.49%, OB +25.84%. After TP, concentration a significant relative percentage increase in case (ferulic acid +39.18%, vanillic +95.68%, apigenin–glucoside +71.96%, p-coumaric +71.91) (avenanthramide 2c +52.17%, dihydroxybenzoic acids +38.55%). best antioxidant capacity registered OBTP followed WBTP. strongest inhibition attributed WBTP sample. Both thermally processed matrices had strong antimutagenic activity toward S. typhimurium TA100. This tested on based its practical application within food industry, considering design different byproducts derived from functional foods nutraceuticals.
