Abstract
Background
Shifting
cultivation
is
a
major
agriculture
practice
in
the
Nagaland
state
of
India.
This
study
examines
effect
shifting
and
length
fallow
period
on
soil
quality
index
(SQI).
Four
sites
were
selected
for
study,
viz.,
site
(SCS),
3-year-old
land
(FL-3),
7-year-old
(FL-7),
12-year-old
(FL-12).
Soil
parameters
recorded
seasonally
SQI
was
calculated
from
minimum
data
set.
Results
With
increase
period,
values
conductivity,
organic
carbon,
available
nitrogen,
phosphorus,
exchangeable
potassium,
moisture,
clay,
cation
exchange
capacity
increased.
Meanwhile,
pH
bulk
density
decreased
with
duration.
