Phaeophyta (brown algae) represent a significant proportion of macroalgal production worldwide. While there are around 1500 species brown algae, biomass originates from only small number species. Production is far greater in Asia where seaweed farming part the cultural background, primary use for human consumption, and growing conditions significantly different European contexts. With all this mind, cost aquaculture not currently economically viable if algae were to be produced purely as bulk feedstock agricultural fertilizers or animal feeds. This review focuses on three target (Laminaria digitata, Saccharina latissima Alaria esculenta), investigating potential uses these seaweeds both also higher value extracted components following areas: hydrocolloids, feed, chemical through fermentation, foodstuffs, applications, cosmetics pharmaceutical applications.

The feasibility of European seaweed farming depends on the valorisation algal biomass harvested. In present work we have combined sequential extraction processes from Saccharina latissima to produce a range products, focusing fucoxanthin using supercritical CO2 followed by different routes. We optimised conditions for (40 MPa, temperature has little impact extraction) and extracts obtained were tested cancer cell cultures determine antiproliferative effects this pigment. established that an effect similar commercial (concentrations 0.1–0.4 mg/mL) showed active compound in is fucoxanthin. order integrate process with holistic biomass, explored mannitol microwave-assisted protocol (4.15 wt % yield). also evaluated potential fucoidans alginates solids remaining after (67.27 69.38 alginates). A life cycle analysis proposed shows drying energy used compress are elements highest environmental (over 90% eq/g extract) process, indicating routes reducing footprint. Combining methods would enable producers obtain multiple marketable products biomass.

d-mannitol is a common six-carbon sugar alcohol, which widely used in food, chemical, pharmaceutical, and other industries. Polymorphism defined as the ability of materials to crystallize into different crystal structures. It has been reported for long time that three polymorphs: β, δ, α. These polymorphs have unique physicochemical properties, thus affecting industrial applications d-mannitol. In this review, we firstly introduced characteristics polymorphs, e.g., structure, morphology, molecular conformational energy, stability, solubility analytical techniques polymorphisms. Then, described strategies preparation crystals focused on polymorphic control products. Furthermore, factors formation polymorphisms were summarized. Finally, application mannitol polymorphism was The purpose paper provide new ideas more personalized design various applications, especially pharmaceutical excipient. Dendrobium officinale has drawn increasing attention as a dual-use plant with herbal medicine and food applications. The efficient quality evaluation of D. is essential to ensuring its nutritional pharmaceutical value. Given that traditional analytical methods are generally time-consuming, expensive, laborious, this study developed rapid approach assess the from different geographical origins by near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy chemometrics. Total saponins, mannitol, naringenin were utilized indicators. Two wavelength selection methods, namely, uninformative variable elimination competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS), enhance prediction accuracy quantification model. Moreover, multiple spectral pretreatment applied for model optimization. Results indicated partial least squares (PLS) constructed based on wavelengths selected CARS exhibited superior performance in predicting contents coefficient determination (RP2) root mean square error (RMSEP) independent test sets 0.8949 0.1250 g kg−1 total 0.9664 0.2192 0.8570 0.003159 naringenin, respectively.
