Emotions play a vital role within organizations, impacting various crucial aspects of work such as job satisfaction, performance, and employee well-being. Understanding how emotional states spread in organizational settings is therefore essential. Recent studies have highlighted that leader’s state can influence their followers, with significant consequences on performance. Leaders thus possess the ability to employees’ psychological and, consequently, However, biological underpinnings contagion from leaders followers remain unexplored. The field interpersonal (neuro)physiology, which involves recording brain peripheral activity multiple individuals during interactions, holds great potential for investigating this phenomenon. Analyzing time-lagged synchronization neurophysiological interactions may serve measure contexts. In “mini review,” we examine empirical employed (neuro)physiology quantify asymmetrical emotions different Asymmetrical was operationalized unidirectional exerted by one individual (i.e., “sender”) another “receiver”), whereby receiver’s be predicted sender’s one. reviewed literature reveals delayed physiological widespread phenomenon underpin transmission emotions. These findings implications life, including leader-to-employee communication, could drive development effective leadership training programs. We propose Organizational Neuroscience benefit neurophysiology its methodological toolkit laboratory leader-follower dynamics.

Abstract domains of knowledge may have social origins. However, whether abstract concepts (ACs) also differentially affect communicative interaction and conversation has not been explored. Here, we studied ACs’ functions by collecting in an Italian English sample, ratings for concrete concept (CC) ACs related to three main dimensions: communicative/pragmatic [i.e., Openness Negotiation (ON), Easiness Start a Conversation (ESC)], semantic/metacognitive Social Metacognition (SM) – perceived need others, Word Confidence (WC), Contextual Availability (CA)], emotional–experiential (i.e., Pleasantness, Valence, Familiarity). Overall, participants judged it was easier start conversation, the more pleasant, familiar, positively valenced were rated concepts. Crucially, at lower values component Familiarity Pleasantness Valence sample), there advantage over CCs ESC. Moreover, higher on SM, ON, WC CA. Notably, both with ESC dimension belonged Self-Sociality subcluster. The results offer new insights into pragmatic aspects linked use.

This mini-review covers recent works on the study of pleasant touch in patients with chronic pain (CP) and its potential use as a treatment. While experiments have demonstrated that touch, through activation CT-afferents brain regions involved affective value, might reduce unpleasantness intensity induced pain, interaction between CP remains under-examined. Some show disrupt positive aspects receiving while other studies perception pleasantness is preserved. Moreover, only few attempts been made to test whether can modulatory effect CP, but these results also remain inconclusive. Indeed, one CT-touch diminish after short stimulation, another suggested not be sufficient. Future should further investigate psychological neural interplay CP. In conclusion this mini-review, we propose new tool recently developed using immersive virtual reality (IVR).

The foetal period constitutes a critical stage in the construction and organisation of mammalian nervous system. In recent work, we have proposed that brain development is structured by bottom-up (interoceptive) inputs from spontaneous physiological rhythms such as heartbeat (Corcoran et al., 2024). Here, expand this visceral afferent training hypothesis to incorporate top-down (allostatic) control over bodily states. We conceptualise emergence cardiac regulation an early instance sensorimotor contingency learning scaffolds agentic control. further propose brain’s capacity actively modify regulate feedback it receives through interoceptive (and other) channels – parse these signals into their self-generated (reafferent) externally-generated (exafferent) components crucial for grounding distinction between self other.
