Critical thinking (CT) is essential in science education to enable students deeply understand scientific concepts and apply their knowledge solve complex real-world problems. Despite its importance, a notable gap remains the availability of instruments designed measure CT specific topics. This study addresses this by testing accuracy an instrument for assessing secondary students’ related human circulatory system, focusing on six APA-defined indicators: interpretation, analysis, inference, evaluation, explanation, self-regulation. The was conducted Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, involved 445 8th-grade from urban, middle, rural schools. Data were collected through online test administered collaboration with teachers after had completed topic. Using Rasch model data analysis improved consistency instrument. Results showed that self-regulation subskill lowest mean score, highlighting it as priority development. At same time, interpretation highest particularly level 4 rating category, making most mastered skill. These findings underscore need educators develop targeted learning strategies enhance skills adapt them other topics similar complexity system.

Abstract This study explores the socio-scientific issue of relevance animal experimentation using a role-playing game to develop argumentation and decision-making skills as key components critical thinking. The activity was conducted with two cohorts, each consisting 30 pre-service early childhood education teachers at University Málaga (Málaga, Spain). analyzes arguments provided by participants justify their decisions perceptions on before after engaging in role-playing. findings reveal progression from initial rejection recognizing its imperative role shaping scientific knowledge. Additionally, an enhancement understanding rational aspects is detected, observed through evolution types employed justifications intervention. The challenge of accurately assessing critical thinking in physics education, particularly on topics like work and energy, remains a key issue for educators. current study aims to address this by exploring students' abilities using two-tier test data analyzed through the Rasch model. Data were collected from students Bengkulu Province, Sumatra, Indonesia, evaluate item fit, reliability, across various dimensions. It was found that instrument demonstrated high validity with infit outfit mean square values close ideal, strong separation reliability both participants items. Further analysis revealed significant variations aspects thinking, including interpretation, analysis, self-regulation, indicating need more targeted pedagogical interventions. concludes applying model analyze tests not only enhances understanding but also provides novel approach developing implementing evaluation instruments education.
