The riverine fish species are highly vulnerable and responsive to large-scale water diversion projects. These adverse impacts more pronounced in the plateau river ecosystems, which may change environmental conditions of habitats community structure. We investigated effects various factors on diversity seven rivers Western Sichuan Plateau, is planned area China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project. Twenty-two species, including eight exotic were collected during September 2023 (Autumn) May 2024 (Spring). communities exhibited no significant difference between seasons but had prominent variations among different rivers. heterogeneity was significantly positively correlated with geographical distance sampling sites (based a projected coordinate system). Furthermore, canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) illustrated that altitude contributed distribution than other physicochemical factors, such as channel width, conductivity, temperature. Rivers at low altitudes likely be invasion fish. Our results demonstrated dispersal limitation by altitudinal gradient primary regulatory spatial differentiation study area, reflected high dependence local habitats. As project implemented, attention expected paid protecting regime shifts communities. Additionally, risk assessment biological under inter-basin transfers human activities should carried out soon possible.

Abstract Background The assembly processes of fish communities in large complex ecosystems often exhibit spatiotemporal variation. In riverine floodplains, this variation is also influenced by interactions with the river main-stem during flood pulse, which masks and confounds driving factor community structure. Herein, we investigated distribution patterns along landscape gradient Yangtze River–Poyang Lake floodplain (YPF) China, goal understanding that shape among different habitats their possible linkage to hydrological disturbances. Results Fish River (YR), River-channel ecotone (CYR), Poyang Lake-channel (CPL), (PL) exhibited significant spatial differentiation. Across periods, channel ecotones act as buffer zones can potentially provide stable habitats. For example, within (i.e., CYR CPL) typically lower temporal variability than permanent lotic (YR) or lentic waters. Applying newly proposed dispersal-niche continuum index (DNCI) framework, quantified a profound dispersal effect across four habitats, especially seasons when lake channels were highly connected. Notably, niche-related process was not prominent low-flow conditions, might be explained incomplete isolation PL YR water channel. Conclusions application DNCI effectively mechanisms YPF conditions while visually representing lateral main driver patterns. This study emphasizes importance connectivity floodplain, should considered conservation efforts aimed at restoring natural river–lake network necessary for diversity flourish.

Abstract The tapertail anchovy Coilia brachygnathus , a commercially important species mainly distributed along the mid‐lower Chang‐Jiang basin, is by far most dominant in Lake Honghu. To figure out its success this semiclosed lake, some basic biological parameters of were analysed based on samples seasonally collected from October 2020 to December 2021. results demonstrated that age classes fished individuals varied 0.5 3.5, with majority (97.36%) being between and 3 years old. size at 50% maturity 17.2 cm total length (TL) for females 19.0 TL males corresponded 1 1.6 years, respectively. has short life span, early sexual relatively fast growth rate. flourishing fish lake attributed maturity, rate, closed fishing, pelagic spawners, availability plenty food low predation effect it. Age 3.5 year occurs an extremely small percentage (<3%), indicating large number larger‐sized or older died after spawning, which probably one major sources water pollution if fishing measure adopted Thus, than 2 more 20.0 should be harvested. Disturbance can strongly influence ecosystems, yet much remains unknown about the relative importance of key processes (selection, drift, and dispersal) in recovery ecological communities following disturbance. We combined field surveys with a experiment to elucidate mechanisms governing aquatic macroinvertebrates habitats an alluvial floodplain flood monitored 24 natural parafluvial over 60 days after major flood, as well colonization newly-built ponds by 45 same floodplain. examined sources environmental variation their effects on assemblages using combination null models Mantel tests. also used joint species distribution model investigate primary metacommunity structuring during recovery: selection, dispersal, drift. Contrary expectations, we found that beta diversity actually decreased among time or creation ponds, instead increasing. This result was despite predictors showing contrasting patterns for explaining community compared experimental ponds. Abstract Crustaceans (Crustacea) are one of the most diverse and successful groups in biosphere, having also mastered different extreme habitats (in addition to freshwater marine). Based on our own data >200 literary sources, way which degree environmental extremeness can limit a potential taxonomic richness crustaceans has been analyzed using example hypersaline waters. It is demonstrated that, with an increase salinity, number classes orders subtype Crustacea decreases linearly; genera species exponentially. With environment contribution Arthropoda total animals waters increases from 49 100%, 66 78%, Branchiopoda 19 71%. In reservoirs Crimea range 35 120 g/L, salinity not main factor determining composition fauna. A lack of an updated checklist freshwater fish species from Lake Dongting is a great hindrance to further biodiversity analysis. seasonal survey fishes in the lake was conducted October 2017 January 2019. Based on data obtained during field and coupled with known literature latest taxonomic development relevant taxa, updated. total 130 12 orders, 30 families 76 genera has been documented, containing 126 native four alien species. Its fauna dominated by Xenocyprididae that highest number included (30), followed Gobionidae (25) Acheilognathidae (11). This comprises 20 undergoing nomenclatural changes 11 new records, eight which are three exotic. It excludes species, have reported error historical works, due synonyms, erroneous unconfirmed records. Unsampled this were 34 ecologically specialised: migratory, rheophilic, predatory, shellfish-dependent or pelagic-egg-spawning. While some these eluded capture likely paucity population, others may extirpated perhaps owing human perturbations, such as river damming across affluents Chang-Jiang mainstem, sand dredging, overfishing water pollution. Non-fed aquaculture is an important contributor to low environmental impact protein production. However, knowledge of spatiotemporal patterns the fish community in non-fed fishery systems remains limited, despite their ecological importance for sustainable and fisheries. To elucidate status fisheries critical drivers systems, hydroacoustic surveys were conducted seasonally Hongchaojiang Reservoir two seasons (spring autumn) consecutive years: 2018 2019. Results showed that average density was 121.6 ind./1000 m3. Fish communities varied significantly between geographical locations seasons.
