Few studies specifically addressed boredom and loneliness dimensions mediating association between depression, anxiety, stress levels onset PIU. A nationwide population-based cross-sectional case-control study was carried out by recruiting sample Italian young people (aged 18–35). Only 1643 participants were selected analyses based on age presence versus absence Participants mainly females (68.7%), with mean 21.8 (SD = 1.7). Non-PIU individuals had significantly stable relationships (p 0.012), siblings 0.044) lived their family 0.010), compared to PIU displayed higher stress, as well (all p < 0.001), non-PIU. Depressive symptomatology predicted that interaction is positively double mediated (ß 0.3829 (0.0245), 95%CI 0.3349–0.4309). Our findings suggested could act mediators depressive likelihood maintenance.

The increasing use of the Internet has raised concerns about its problematic use, particularly among emerging adults who grew up in a highly digitalized world. Helicopter parenting, characterized by excessive involvement, overcontrol, and developmentally inappropriate behavior, been identified as potential factor contributing to (PIU). Under these circumstances, considering that navigate their adult lives strive reduce sense being in-between, implicit emotion regulation strategies, such defense mechanisms, may help comprehend PIU. present questionnaire-based study investigated associations between maternal paternal helicopter parenting PIU through defensive functioning community sample 401 cisgender (71.82% females; 82.04% heterosexuals; Mage=24.85, SD=2.52) living Italy. About one-fourth (25.19%) reported Greater maternal, B=0.904, SE=0.235, p<.001, but not paternal, B=0.343, SE=0.188, p=.068, was significantly associated with less mature functioning. Conversely, neither B=1.158, SE=0.722, p=.109, nor B=0.355, SE=0.731, p=.628, had direct association results suggest importance for psychotherapists incorporate individuals’ mechanisms parent–child relationship history when designing tailored interventions effective treatment This emphasis is crucial because, context appropriate style, relying on more defenses after psychotherapeutic intervention can lead healthier adjustment adults.
