Despite the significant growth of literature on adaptive reuse, little is known about specific criteria unfolding throughout different phases reuse decision-making process. To address this gap paper aims to provide a comprehensive, state-of-the-art overview decision for Through an integrative review with systematic search strategy, three are substantiated: pre-project phase, preparation and post-completion phase. This finds that despite similarities between phases, predominant repetition economic architectural categories, more environmental still overlooked. The findings underscore necessity additional research circularity within process, emphasizing significance often overlooked implementation crucial practices like disassembly. By offering novel process perspective AR decision-making, study contributes growing discourse provides basis further enhancement frameworks.

Purpose This study assesses the success of a real project in practice, using identified factors from recent systematic literature. It investigates how theoretical insights translate into real-world outcomes by answering question: “How do existing literature contribute to adaptive reuse project?”. Design/methodology/approach research utilizes case methodology explore phenomenon through lens Fenix I Netherlands. Three comprehensive semi-structured interviews with key decision-makers provide experiences, challenges, and ultimately evaluation practice. Data analysis involves deductive coding, systematically organizing ten categories derived literature, implement align objectives. Findings The results demonstrate application majority within study. reveals differences levels significance among these factors, their categorization existence, particularly between listed non-listed heritage buildings. Moreover, it shows remarkable impact public-private collaboration early stages decision-making implementation. confirms that successful addresses significant proportion Originality/value facilitates process for stakeholders practitioners projects, aiming foster development more initiatives this field.

In the context of high-quality urban renewal, we recognize that heritage renewal must align with sustainable conservation. As an important part cultural heritage, find conservation value industrial is often undermined in pre-decision-making and mid-development phases adaptive reuse, resulting imbalance between renewal. The study aims to develop a comprehensive, concise, objective post-development assessment system for reuse heritage. We establish based on “conservation sustainability” “added create two-dimensional “conservation–reuse” model. Using geographic information (GIS), build database Beijing assess 19 reused samples four-quadrant results show fluctuates 53.3% 86.7%, while reaches low only 50%, more than half having degree below average. Bibliometric analysis, an in-depth search Web Science sources a co-occurrence or cluster analysis were used meet objective. From research, it found that LEED BREEAM certifications are most widely among assessment. Sustainability itself shows relationships with property valuation, but these not strong, therefore can be assumed that, currently, sustainable properties do have concept valuation itself, nor is topic main focus research. On positive side, there potential issues, where expected play increasingly important role process future.
