Light use is rising steeply, mainly because of the advent light-emitting diode (LED) devices. LEDs are frequently blue-enriched light sources and may have different impacts on non-image forming (NIF) system, which maximally sensitive to blue-wavelength light. Most importantly, timing LED device widespread, leading novel exposure patterns NIF system. The goal this narrative review discuss multiple aspects that we think should be accounted for when attempting predict how situation will affect impact brain functions. We first cover both image-forming pathways brain. then detail our current understanding human cognition, sleep, alertness, mood. Finally, questions concerning adoption lighting screens, offer new opportunities improve well-being, but also raise concerns about increasing exposure, detrimental health, particularly in evening.

Due to the very limited information available during building design phase, lighting automation systems tend follow pre-defined control curves and use normative default values. However, these are unlikely reflect wide variation in daily working hours individual preferences. Inadequate user modelling can result missed energy comfort targets, as well insufficient light doses. Given that sector accounts for around one third of world's demand, is main consumers, a higher level representation essential meet climate environmental targets. The general practical applicability user-centred concepts usually fails due implementation, inadequate mapping objectives required parameters, availability systems. Beyond vision, light influences human circadian rhythms and buildings' energy consumption. Design solutions are needed to satisfy visual requirements while minimizing lighting demands. By reflecting the incident radiation, inner surfaces influence spatial spectral distribution, affecting achieve task illuminance light-induced response. Here, walls' characteristics' impact on overall luminous environment power demands is analysed in a test room, combining seven colours three sources' correlated colour temperatures (CCTs). Hence, luminaires set meet needs: eye level irradiances measured, responses obtained regarding both stimulus (CS) melanopic equivalent daylight (mel-EDI). It found that parameters higher for highly reflective walls or those most short-wavelength interval, being insufficient proper stimulation according current guidelines. For all colours, highest mel-EDIs occur with 6000 K CCT lowest 3000 CCT. On contrary, CSs generally lower 4000 K. Second, necessary calculated. With warm sources, sufficient CS mel-EDI values achieved similar eye-level illuminance, requiring outputs regardless of wall's colour. In other cases, corresponding = 136 lx much than reach 30%, 250 quite always highest.

It is well known that buildings have a sizeable energy and environmental footprint. In particular, in environments like university campuses, the occupants as occupancy shared spaces varies over time. Systems for cooling such are centrally controlled typically threshold driven do not account occupant feedback thus often relying on reactive approach (fix after identifying problems). Therefore, having fixed thermal operating set point may be optimal cases—both from an comfort well-being efficiency perspective. To address this issue, study was conducted which involved development deployment of experimental Internet Things (IoT) prototype system Android application facilitated people engagement campus located UAE exhibits hot climatic conditions. This paper showcases data insights obtained study, how to achieve balance between conflicting goals improving efficiency. Findings underscore need regular reassessments adaptation. The proposed solution low cost easy deploy has potential reap significant savings through reduction consumption with estimates indicating around 50–100 kWh/day per building resulting impact. These findings would appeal stakeholders who keen improve reduce their expenses footprint Furthermore, collective action large number entities could result impact cumulative effect.
