This review systematizes data on the coordination ability of mono- and disubstituted derivatives boron cluster anions carboranes in complexation with transition metals. Boron clusters [BnHn]2–, monocarborane [CBnHn–1]–, dicarboranes [C2BnHn–2] (with non-functionalized carbon atoms) (n = 10, 12) containing B–X exo-polyhedral bonds (X N, O, S, Hal) are discussed. Synthesis structural features complexes known to date described. The effect complexing metal substituent attached cage composition structures final is analyzed. It has been established that substituted can act as both ligands counterions. A agent coordinate due three-center two-electron 3c2e MHB bonds, by functional groups, or a mixed type be realized, through BH groups substituent. As for B-substituted carboranes, coordinated substituents salts non-coordinated carborane have isolated; compounds bonding not characteristic carboranes.

In the course of study, nanocrystalline cobalt monoboride was prepared by thermal decomposition precursors [Co(DMF)6][An], where [An] = [B12H12]2- (1), [trans-B20H18]2- (2) or [B10Cl10]2- (3) in an argon atmosphere. Three new salt-like compounds 1-3 were when Co(NO3)2 allowed to react with (Et3NH)2[An]. Compound 1 is new; structures 2 and 3 have been previously reported. Samples annealed at 900 °C form samples 1a-3a, which characterized single crystal XRD for powder 1-3. Powder on products showed formation BN CoB 1a a 1:1 ratio; 2a gave higher CoB:BN ratio but overall decreased crystallinity. For 3a, only found. IR spectra 1a-3a as well X-ray spectral fluorescence analysis 3a confirmed these results. The nanoparticular character shown using TEM; quite small particle sizes about 10-15 nm normal size distribution found 2a, while large particles 200-350 broad distribution.

For the first time, a systematic study of behavior Ag2[B12Cl12] in oxygen-containing organic solvents various nature (acetone, N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), dimethoxyethane (DME), methanol (CH3OH), and tetrahydrofuran (THF)) was conducted. The used were found to compete with perchlorinated [B12Cl12]2– anion, forming silver(I) coordination polyhedron. A number compounds compositions structures solvent molecules acting as ligands obtained characterized by physicochemical methods. polymer complexes {Ag2(solv)x[B12Cl12]}n (x = 4, solv acetone (1), DMF (2), CH3OH (4), THF (7); x 2, DME (3)) coordinated well [Ag(THF)3]2[B12Cl12] (5) [Ag(THF)4Ag(THF)2][B12Cl12] (6) boron cluster anion counterion determined single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Furthermore, complexation 18-crown-6 (L1) 4-methylmorpholine (L2) investigated. Salts complex cations [Ag L1(CH3OH)]+ (8) [Ag(L2)2]+ (9) isolated. Based on results obtained, plausible pathway for process ligand L proposed. data confirmed using 109Ag NMR spectroscopy solutions salt individual their mixtures.

Zinc borates are widely used in industry due to their thermal stability as a flame retardant the production of plastics, rubber, and other polymer compositions. We have developed simple effective approach for synthesis zinc borate powders with desired properties, including particle size, low bulk density, high reactivity, etc. were prepared by treatment concentrated water–carbohydrate solution salt until finely dispersed ZnO was formed, followed its hydrothermal at 90–300 °C part suspension based on hot aqueous H3BO3. According X-ray powder diffraction, IR spectroscopy, TG–DSC data, depending temperature treatment, decrease water content structure synthesized particles is observed. TEM SEM data indicate formation isometrically shaped nanometer range during above 250 °C. Varying affects average size fineness particles.

Mixed-ligand lead(II) complexes with 2,2′-bipyridyl and [B10H9OH]2− or monosubstituted hydroxy-substituted closo-decaborate anions a pendant hydroxy group, separated from the boron cage by an alkoxylic spacer of different lengths [B10H9O(CH2)xO(CH2)2OH]]2− (x = 2 5) have been synthesized. Compounds characterized IR multinuclear NMR spectroscopies. The structures binuclear complex [Pb(bipy)2[B10H9OH]]2·CH3CN (1·CH3CN), mononuclear [Pb(bipy)2[B10H9O(CH2)2O(CH2)2OH]]·0.5bipy·CH3CN (2·0.5bipy·CH3CN), polymeric [Pb(bipy)[B10H9O(CH2)5O(CH2)2OH]]n (3) determined single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In all three compounds, co-ordination polyhedra are formed N atoms two bipy molecules, O substituent attached to cage, BH groups cage.
