The Eastern Mediterranean Sea, rich in environmental and cultural heritage, faces increasing threats from emerging contaminants like toxic metals phthalates. This study evaluates their occurrence across 40 Lebanese coastal hotspots using advanced techniques such as Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (XRF) Gas Chromatography-Mass (GC–MS). Widespread contamination was detected both water sediments near landfills, sewage discharges, industrial areas. Metal concentrations varied, with chromium (Cr) reaching 20.3 µg/L, arsenic (As) 12.1 lead (Pb) 30.6 indicating pollution urban activities. Manganese (Mn) zinc (Zn) were within safe limits, while selenium (Se) posed ecological risks. Among 13 phthalates, diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) the most prevalent, ranging 15.57 to 72.88 µg/L. Sediments showed elevated calcium, strontium, barium levels, exceeding safety thresholds. Statistical analysis revealed correlations between spatial variability driven by industrial, agricultural, These findings highlight need for proper regulations routine monitoring protect marine ecosystems public health.

Phthalate esters (PAEs) are a group of chemicals used to improve the flexibility and durability plastics. The chemical properties resistance high temperatures promote their degradation release into environment. Food beverages can be contaminated by PAEs through migration from packaging material because they not covalently bound plastic also via different kinds environmental sources or during processing. For instance, alcoholic drinks in containers particular risk, since ethanol contained provides good solubility for PAEs. According its role as an endocrine disruptor compound adverse effects on liver, kidney, reproductive respiratory systems, International Agency Research Cancer (IARC) classified di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) possible human carcinogen. this reason, control exposure PAEs, many countries prohibited use food non-food substances. example, Europe, Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/2005 restricts DEHP, dibutyl (DBP), benzyl butyl (BBP), diisobutyl (DiBP) concentration equal below 0.1 weight plasticizers articles consumers indoor areas. There reports US Drug Administration (FDA) that some (and well), particularly fruit juices, contain levels phthalates. In cases, deliberate adulteration soft with has been reported. This paper would like show difficulties performing PAE analysis beverage matrices, beverages, well main solutions provided quality industrial branches.

Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) is widely used as a plasticizer in the production of polymeric materials to give them flexibility, strength and extensibility. However, due its negative impact on human health, particular reproductive functions fetal development, content DBP must be controlled food environment. The present study aims develop sensitive, fast simple fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA) using monoclonal antibodies derived against (MAb-DBP) for detection open waters. New conjugates with various fluorescein derivatives were obtained characterized: 5-aminomethylfluorescein (AMF) dichlorotriazinylaminofluorescein (DTAF). advantages DBP-AMF conjugate FPIA method are shown, kinetics binding this chemical studied, analysis optimized, concentration selected sensitivity analysis—16 nM. calibration dependence signal was obtained. observed IC50 (DBP at which 50% decrease occurs, 40 ng/mL) limit (LOD, 7.5 values improved by factor 45 over previously described polyclonal antibodies. This technique tested recovery method, high percentage discovery water ranged from 85 110%. Using developed real samples Lake Onega tested, good correlation shown between results determination GC-MS. Thus, work can determine open-water reservoirs.

Abstract Chemical exposomes can now be comprehensively measured in human blood, but robust application of chemical exposomics cohort studies requires knowledge the longitudinal stability and interindividual variability exogenous molecular profiles. Here we applied to plasma 46 adults, each sampled six times over two years a multiomic wellness cohort. New chemicals were discovered, distinctive co-exposure patterns observed, intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) for 519 confidently annotated substances are reported support study design. Longitudinal exposome (mean ICC 0.30) was significantly lower than proteome, metabolome, lipidome or microbiome, must more frequently other profiles health studies. Mixed-effects models nevertheless revealed significant associations between testosterone perfluoroalkyl substances, time-trends low high exposures alike. Complex data structures visualized explored, demonstrating great potential precision research. Teaser The first cohort-level novel dynamic co-exposures blood relevance health.
