The presence of microplastics (MPs) is increasing at a dramatic rate globally, posing risks for exposure and subsequent potential adverse effects on human health. Apart from being physical objects, MP particles contain thousands plastic-associated chemicals (i.e., monomers, chemical additives, non-intentionally added substances) captured within the polymer matrix. These are often migrating MPs can be found in various environmental matrices food chains; health effects. In addition to attributes MPs, plastic surfaces effectively bind exogenous chemicals, including pollutants (e.g., heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants). Therefore, act as vectors pollution across air, drinking water, food, further amplifying posed by exposure. Critically, fragmentation plastics environment increases risk interactions with cells, available leach adsorb transfer pollutants. This review proposes so-called triple nexus approach comprehensively map existing knowledge interconnected particles, Based data, there large gap regard cumulative nexus. Each component known induce genotoxicity, inflammation, endocrine disruption, but about long-term inter-individual lacking. Furthermore, not readily excreted organisms after ingestion they have been accumulated blood, cardiac tissue, placenta, etc. Even though number studies MPs-associated impacts rapidly, this underscores that pressing necessity achieve an integrated assessment MPs' order address future gaps.

Microplastic (MP) contamination has been identified as a worrisome environmental issue at the global level. Fish are taxonomic group more extensively investigated to assess MP in marine environment. A large variability bioaccumulation (i.e., body burden) was reported fish but date there is dearth of information concerning drivers underlying this process. The present systematic review aimed summarizing results scientific literature on burden digestive tract quantitatively shed light contribution different geographical latitudinal origin sample, distance from coastline and field- or marked-collected) ecological trophic strategy, milieu, size) factors driving bioaccumulation. mean (±SE) MPs/individual 4.13 ± 2.87, MPs/ww MPs/g) 5.92 0.94. Overall, abundance expressed tropical areas significantly higher compared other bands, with species sampled close that accumulated larger number MPs those collected offshore. Neither nor milieu market field explained burden. However, size resulted determinant (as MPs/individual), small accumulating lower amount ones. Qualitatively, not statistically significant, similar were generally obtained for MPs/ww, except an opposite, variation according size. Our findings showed geographical, rather than represent main fish, suggesting variables and/or local pollution sources mainly contribute explaining ingestion processes these contaminants.

Abstract Contamination by microplastics (MPs) has the potential to rank among world’s most significant environmental issues. Despite fact that MP contamination is a global problem, little known about time variation of MPs in agricultural soil and its faunal communities which represent key role risk assessment. This study represents first field investigation regarding concentrations ecosystem Egypt. Our investigates seasonal fluctuations common fauna citrus orchard ( Citrus sinensis ) Egypt’s Sohag Governorate. Moreover, this work aimed identify how feeding strategies body size selected affect no. ingested. The greatest mean concentration was observed summer (664 ± 90.20 items/kg) dry weight. However lowest recorded autumn (354 70.92 items/kg). Aporrectodea caliginosa (earthworms) more contaminated with (6.84 2.5 item/individual annually) than Anisolabis maritima (earwigs) (2.06 0.86 annually). When comparing between taxa without considering organisms, earwigs showed higher (ranged from 117.93 5.23 244.38 4.57 items/gm wet weight) earthworms 25.62 2.43 51.66 4.05 weight). results found blue red colors were predominant fauna. Also, polyester fibers (PES) popular type microplastics, followed fractions polyethylene (PE) polypropylene (PP). Interestingly, reduction particles present compared those soil. Pollution load index (PLI) value varied across seasons, due reduced abundance. Hazard (H) indicates moderate (level III) high abundance low hazard score (4) all seasons. starting point for further studies on impact organisms various soils.

Abstract Microplastic pollution has adversely affected the aquatic ecosystem, living creatures, and human health. Several studies in Malaysia have provided baseline information on existence of microplastics surface water, ingestion by marine life sediment. Also, humans are exposed to microplastic due consumption contaminated abiotic biotic products, such as processed seafood. Nonetheless, knowledge is still scarce among Malaysian potential remediation management microplastics, which poses a significant challenge preserve good environmental status. Green technologies also other alternative mitigate contamination for sustainable future. Hence, this review aims provide an overview microplastic's occurrence, fate, implications Malaysia's environment. Detection from water surface, aquatics, sediment samples highlighted. Available different treatment processes toward discussed. Additionally, challenges, current perspective plastic Malaysia, well green strategies reducing put forward. The goal work improve understanding seriousness environments, thus encouraging key concerns that need be investigated further.

This study documented seasonal levels of microplastics (MPs) and biomarkers (condition index, neurotoxicity, energy, oxidative stress) in mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis), water physico-chemical parameters the Douro estuary (NE Atlantic coast), estimated human risk MP intake (HRI) through mussels. Mussel stress was determined Integrated Biomarker Response (IBR). HRI from mussel concentrations consumer habits. MPs were mainly micro-fibres (72 %) with varied chemical composition. Seasonal means (±SEM) ranged 0.111 ± 0.044 (spring) to 0.312 0.092 MPs/g (summer). variations (IBR: 1.4 spring 9.7 summer) not related. MeO-BDEs, PBDEs, temperature, salinity other factors likely contributed variation. 2438 2650 MPs/year. Compared literature, contamination is low, as well their consumption.
