Plant species are a reservoir of natural compounds that can potentially be used to treat different diseases. Citrus medica Linn. belonging the Rutaceae family, has been for centuries in medicine its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, and antihyperglycemic properties. These activities ascribable not only presence health-promoting macronutrients micronutrients, such as carbohydrates, minerals, amino acids, vitamins, but also specialized metabolites, flavonoids (apigenin, hesperetin, hesperidin, naringin, naringenin, rutin, quercetin, diosmin), coumarins (citropten, scoparone, bergapten), terpenes (limonene, γ-terpinene, limonin, nomilin), phenolic acids (p-coumaric acid, trans-ferulic chlorogenic acid). In recent years, particular attention focused on antimicrobial activity, antidiabetic, anticancer, neuroprotective activity C. medica. However, although many studies have reported this species’ chemical biological properties, literature never analyzed via systematic approach.
