Short video platforms have rapidly become a prominent form of social media, but their problematic use is increasingly concerning. This review synthesizes existing research to propose comprehensive framework that integrates individual, social-environmental, and platform-related factors contributing this issue. Individual are categorized into distal (e.g., personality, psychopathology) proximal usage expectations, cognitive, emotional, behavioral responses during use) categories, with often shaping ones, which more directly influence behaviors. Social-environmental factors, such as family dynamics peer interactions, along features, also significantly impact the likelihood use. Beyond direct effects, our emphasizes importance examining combined effects these particularly through mediation moderation processes. Mediation processes reveal how individual by immediate, factors. Similarly, social-environmental influences platform features may affect modifying Moderation further illustrate characteristics or alter strength relationships. Understanding complex, multidimensional relationships essential for developing effective interventions mitigate risks associated short Future should explore in greater depth.

Short-video addiction (SVA) has become a growing concern among adolescents. Bullying victimization (BV) is considered significant factor contributing to it, yet its relationship with SVA remains underexplored. This study investigated the role of BV in SVA, examining developmental and psychological pathways across middle school students (MSS; n = 1269), college (CS; 1615) replicated sample (RCS; 112). Descriptive statistics revealed correlations between BV, including subdimensions such as verbal, physical relational bullying, well negative affect (NA). Mediation analyses showed that NA partially mediated both MSS CS groups, although mediation effects were absent addicted subgroups, highlighting differing nonaddicted populations. Neuroimaging RCS identified spontaneous functional brain activity linked inferior temporal gyrus (ITG) parahippocampal (PHG), intersubject representational similarity (IS-RSA) further associating PHG dorsomedial prefrontal cortex (DMPFC) patterns variations SVA. These findings underscore bullying critical predictor short video addiction, by illuminate associated addiction.

Short video applications have gained increasing prominence as pivotal channels for information acquisition and knowledge dissemination, capturing the attention of scholars. Despite interest in this area, a general investigation factors that facilitate users’ adoption on TikTok remains insufficient. We combine flow experience theory to construct novel theoretical model investigating antecedents intentions within realm short applications. A total 386 data were collected from TikTok’s users analyzed using partial least squares (PLS) approach. The analysis revealed technology affordance (i.e., accuracy, serendipity, perceived ease use) quality influence via experience. Users’ interest-type epistemic curiosity can moderate effect serendipity intentions. This study investigates interactive effects individuals, technology, intentions, offering implications platform administrators, content creators, government agencies understand adoption.

The business ecosystem surrounding user-generated videos (UGVs) is rapidly expanding. However, existing literature on the motivations for UGV consumption presents inconsistencies in findings. This study aims to apply a meta-analytic approach synthesize determinants of viewership, moderators accounting variance effect sizes, and theories elucidating these associations. Through systematic search up March 2023 five academic databases, 46 studies were included meta-analysis. Within extant literature, 145 antecedents viewership examined. They covered two broad categories video/platform attributes human factors (i.e., user/viewer-related, streamer/host-related, socio-cultural). quantitative synthesis 72 correlation coefficients, from 48 independent samples with total 22,165 consumers, demonstrated that attitude, entertainment, escapism, flow, information seeking, perceived usefulness, social interaction, time spent watching, usage satisfaction significantly affected spectatorship. Compared factors, features UGVs hosting platforms are under-researched. Subgroup analyses unveiled moderating roles type viewer gender. To better customize different segments, more insights into interactions among video formats, genres, platform functionalities, needed.
