Incompressible deep wound bleeding is difficult to control and remains a formidable challenge. Here, water-triggered self-expanding hemostatic sponge (AG/GA-CS) was prepared using agarose (AG) gallic acid-modified chitosan (GA-CS) via sequential physical mixing, freeze-drying, compression fixation process. The AG/GA-CS showed high mechanical performance can expand rapidly after absorbing liquid, which provide pressure on the close it ultimately form barrier promote hemostasis.
