ABSTRACT
This
study
aimed
to
understand
how
cactus
age
affects
the
physicochemical
and
technological
properties
of
mucilage
biopolymeric
films.
Cladodes
Nopalea
cochenillifera
(MIU)
Opuntia
stricta
(OEM)
were
harvested
at
9
months
(young)
18
(old)
age.
The
epidermis
was
removed,
aquiferous
parenchyma
crushed
mixed
with
ethyl
alcohol
(2:3).
After
homogenization,
dried,
pulverized
analysed
physicochemically.
powder
obtained
hydrated,
a
plasticizer
added,
resulting
in
formation
polymeric
films
after
24
h
drying
an
oven.

characterized
for
physicochemical,
optical,
structural,
mechanical
thermal
properties.
Older
cladodes
presented
higher
yield
(3.16%),
as

pH
(5.26)
phenolic
compounds

Young
exhibited
levels
soluble
carbohydrates
(27.67
derived
from
these
less
transparent

angle
improved
stability.
XRD
spectra
SEM
micrographs
showed
have
more
crystalline
homogeneous
structure,
enhancing
their
strength
(0.09
MPa).
Therefore,
young
cacti
greater
potential
application
within
packaging
industry.
